The man who climbed to the top of Belfast's big wheel has appeared in court charged with disorderly conduct.
Patrick Joyce, 38, of no fixed abode was also charged with unlawfully imprisoning five people who were stuck on the wheel during the incident.
Belfast magistrates court was told that Mr Joyce had a grievance about his living conditions which had led him to climb the structure in protest.
He was refused bail and remanded in custody until 29 June.
A defence solicitor said he had been assured that the protest was now over and that the Housing Executive was attempting to address Mr Joyce's concerns.
He added that there would be no repeat of the incident.

If he had stoned Romanians out of their homes he'd have got bail... maybe not as he is a traveller...

Just heard this on the radio, absolute disgrace.

Very bad in a bail application to be of no fixed abode. Particularly if you can't give a fixed address when you will be staying whilst on bail. Would have there's a danger for an injustice here though as he could end up spending more time in prison on bail than he may be eventually sentenced to.

I would have thought that living in a caravan would have constituted having no "fixed" abode, either way this man should be freed on bail.

Which is why he was protesting. The unsatisfactory way in which the local authority were dragging their heels in providing a 'fixed' abode.

The whole thing sinks and I don't blame him one bit.

Then put  a plug in it Ziggy  ::)
