Irish couple die in road crash near Chicago

Tuesday, 16 June 2009

An Irish couple with deep-rooted GAA connections in Kerry and Galway have died in a road crash in the US.

Former Kerry hurler Joe O'Connell and his wife, former Galway camogie player Ann Coleman, were travelling with their three children when the crash happened on Sunday night about an hour from Chicago.

The family emigrated to America several years ago and had been living in Madison, Wisconsin.

They were travelling to the west coast for a holiday at the time of Sunday's crash.

The three children, aged between 10 and 15, were injured in the accident and one is said to be in a critical condition.

QuoteThere was an interview on RTE Morning Ireland yesterday morning about this tragedy and Berni, Anne's brother has asked me can I get a copy of it for him as he is leaving Dublin for Galway this A.M.  He wants this for a particular reason and I would really appreciate if anyone has any contacts in RTE or knows how it can be found as Morning Ireland is not on RTE's playback listing.

Rest In Peace Anne & Joe.

Can anyone help with above (see hurling section) that has a contact in RTE?
Thanks.

Anne Coleman would also be an aunt of Galway's Niall Coleman. RIP to both. Hope the little girl is ok, most of Abbey is in complete shock at the news.
