I have watched this thread develop with great interest, my take on Clough is that he had the perfect foil in Taylor and that no one else in the world at that time could have done what thye did in terms of league and european glory.

Clough loved to get after people, and he jacked up ferguson a time or two, which he learned from and has handed our verbal batterings to several high profile managers since.

I see were people are coming from with reference to wegner, his teams play lovely football and are generally great to watch however he cannot get it done in europe, relies too much on youth and has not been able to sustain the progress of the team and as such he cannot be fairly compared to Clough.

He was an arrogant bollix, but then a lot of the best managers are, ferguson is an arrogant git but you cant argue with his record, Wegner is another arrogant git as is the special one, the thing is, these men are driven, they are the right men in the right place at the right time and they are all successful in their on right, that said, Clough did with Derby and Forest something that will probably never be achieved again, and therin lies his legacy as a genius.
Armagh, the one true love of a mans life.

Main Street

I have seen two of them which look the same, same footage  same participants but they just say different things at different times.
It's impressive stuff. At least he had substance to back up the bluff.

What struck me was that he looked an old man aged 55, wasted away. He was functioning as a manager but just able to use 10% of his capacity.
When Forest were relegated he was barely moving and incoherent. Was he what you'd call a permanently lubricated alcoholic?
When he recovered some of his health, but much of his memory and brain function were lost.

Anyone remember the 1978 World Cup when he was on the panel with among others Mick Channon who was ranting on about what England would have done had it been there.  Cue Brian to basically tell him to wise the fcuk up.  Channon blushed so much his make-up started to melt.
To find his equal an Irishman is forced to talk to God!
