I honestly dont see what difference it will make

Does this mean that businesses will turn off their intruder alarms during this hour, that all CCTV will be down, Lamposts won't be working etc?

Could be a receipe for disaster in my book.

For all you guys partaking - huddle the family in the basement and bring a shotgun.

Why would they be turning off intruder alarms when its lights they are being asked to turn off?
Plus if the intruder alarm is on I would guess no one is in the building anyway so the lights would be off already..

I'll admit such is my aparthy towards this conservation idea I hadn't read their manifesto completely. I just saw turn off stuff for earth hour and I completely "switched off"

In the very least, wont it save a bit of electricity?

To which one could reply - why would "the top" take action when the people wouldnt even switch off their lights for an hour one evening?
Baby steps and all that.

I just heard about it yesterday. I'm miles away from being "green" but I think I'll do this - it'll be a bit of craic with the kids, we'll light a few candles, and it'll teach them a little bit more about the environment.
