We always turn TVs off completely don't leave anything on standby, I always turn my laptop off at the plug as well, and always unplug chargers and my ipod speakers, the only thing I would have on a lot in my room is the heater and then the heated towel rail in the bathroom.  The other 2 would be pretty similar to me, not so sure about Rockwell boy, but if he leaves anything on in the kitchen we would turn it off.  And unfortunately we don't have a sky box to worry about  :D

As for the meter couldn't find it anywhere in the apartment so asked about that as well and apparently it's below in the carpark...I was thinking though would each apartment have its own separate meter or would it just be for the block and then they just average it between all the apartments?

And no we don't have a tumble dryer or washing machine, there is a separate laundry, probably because they want to make as much money as possible as its €5 for a wash and tumble dry!

Each apartment would have its own separate meter

Are they reading the meter from the wrong apartment?! Get yourself a key and go read the meter yourself. If your heating is on the wheel will be flying around.

There is a way of stopping it spin so fast without cutting down on your electricity use  ;)

That's nothing, I know several people and their meters only read the power used by the ceilling lights.

The last time there was a NIE man round to read my parent's meter he told them they were looking for the "lost electricity" in area.

Just thought of it...I also know someone who rigged the meter...he could either get it to stop and start or go slower, cant remember which, but one day he went to look at it and it was going backwards!   :o   :D
