Bring in the mark for kickouts and I think it would be a great rule. You will see some spectacular catches and some great aerial battles. I think the handpass rule is a bit of a non entity though.

Another rule I would introduce is that all free kicks inside the 45 should be taken off the ground... kicking a dead ball is an excellent skill which has been lost in our game!!

All kickouts would be made short to ensure you make ground and keep pocession
. If a goalie kicking out and a great fielder on the opposing team was in the middle of the field it would be silly to try a long KO for him to take a mark and kick that mark back over the bar.

High fielding is a big part of the game and is rewarded. It is what makes Dara O and the likes great players. If he wasn't rewarded for catching high balls he would just be a good player and not a great player.

Teams try and do that now anyway. I don't think a mark for kickouts is veering us towards Aussie Rules at all. There are maybe 30 or so opportunities for kickouts during a game and I would Like to see them contested properly. Possibly have a rule that the kickout must go past the 45 or something if you want to stop short crappy kickouts. Also if we introduced the mark across the board then you would get 20 yard kickpasses the whole way up the pitch and we would essentially turn into Aussie Rules.

I think we are definitely losing some facets of our game such ass the high catch and the kick off the ground. If we do not do somethin about this then we will eventually turn into a handpassing game with blanket defences and nobody wants to see that!

We'll soon be having American coaches on the line with the headphones and clip boards, calling time outs as soon as the other team get near the 21.

It would become a case of brining in rules to ensure rules are allowed to brought in and more rules to ensure those rules. I think most agree it's not broke.

bringing in marks for kickouts wont make one bit of difference, your opponent will always try to break the ball to stop you from getting the mark.a mark will be of no benefit to the team who win the mark,it will just be like a free kick and gives your opponents time to organise the defence therefore contrdicting what you are trying to achieve.

behind the wire

The idea of the mark throughout the game would be a bad idea. as is sending a player to the line for a yellow card offence. anyone in their right mind would agree thatis a non runner.

i would however agree with screenexile regarding the mark for kickouts. i think it should only be for kickouts that clear the '45. it has got to the stage where the greatest skill in our game ie being able to rise over players to catch a kick out, has become almost a disadvantage because as soon as the player hits the ground he is bottled up. Dan Gordon makes some amazing catches yet more often than not he is jumped by 2 or 3 players the second he hits the ground and quite often gets blown for overcarrying.

i think it would not only protect but would in efect reintroduce the high catch as a permanent fixture in the game.

As for kicking the ball off the ground, i would agree that something needs to be done there as well. another great skill that is dying. unfortunately it is a skill i was never blessed with and probably will never be able to master. i think thats why i appreciate witnessing someone executing it properly. vaughan is an excellent example, and marty clarke could do it since he was about 14.

They really dont like to see Ulster teams win the all ireland do they! There was a handpass rule after the ulster dominance in the early 90's, there was a sin bin rule after Tyrone and Armaghs success earlier this decade and now talk of a host of rule changes after Tyrone win their 3rd All Ireland.

The kick from the hand was brought in to speed he game up but I doubt if this has happened. I would not necessarily ban the kick from the hand inside the 45 but in order to score direct from a free it should be off the ground. Definitely one of the great skills that is dying out

no one can really make a mess of things like  officials who haven't played a game for years. all you have to do is look back at gaa gold on tg4 the reason there was so much spectaular catchting was the game moved at about half the pace of todays game . for better or worse that is not going to change.
Look at what the committe men di to rugby tis year they have turned it into what looks like a bad under 10's game in fact its probably closer now to what pat daly would like  fooball to be like. unwatchable mindless kicking of long balls

If ye watch some of the players that marked those kerry players in the 80s some of them would put Johnnie fivebellies to shame.

None of the great Midfielders of the past required marks to make their presence felt, this is just another non-sensical idea, a story for the closed season
