Surprised that Laois are on that list. Do wins as Queen's County/Leix/Laoghis not count?

Out of that list Kilkenny, Clare and waterford have at least won hurling honours. As far as I know Antrim hold the dubious honour of being the only county to reach finals in both codes but never win any.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what we are called, we never won a Senior Football AIF which was what I meant the question to be.  We won with the small ball back in the time when you ran around with the peaked cap turned to the back of the head and had a smoke at half time, 1915 I think.

We must have all took up guns instead of football the next year, 1916 and in the following years because we won nothing after that but interestingly, nayder are we called Queens County anymore so I suspect a lot of time was spent getting rid of that tag as well.

I thought we were members of a much smaller club though, and apart from Kilkenny, Clare and Antrim who I consider to be hurling counties it is surprising that after 125 years there are still thirteen counties that have have not won Sam, and worse, dont look like winning it any time soon.

Tyrone & Armagh both won their first All Irelands in the last 10s so things can chance. In 1990s Derry & Donegal got their first big one. Of the counties that haven't won Sam yet I reckon Monaghan or Laois have the best chance of a breakthrough in the next 10 years.

Best chance is a relative term, because of the powers that are out there, but if there was a knockout competition between those 13 teams, I reckon Westmeath would win it, and I reckon they are probably closest (again relative) to being the first to break that duck.

Of course, it's tallest pygmy scenario.

The Forfeit Point

out of the remaining teams monaghan are the only ones that have the potential to make the breakthrough as far as i can see. if i was asked that question a few years ago, laois wouldve been serious contenders but i dont believe them to be anymore or for the foreseeable future

Laois reached the '07 AI U21 final and won Leinsters in 06/07. They won the '07 minors as well. They might forge a decent side in a year or 2. Monaghan - no chance.

SLIGONIAN

Sligo won connacht in 1920s, think it was 1922 where we beat galway, and beat tipp in all ireland semi, we qualified for all ireland final. Only we never got to play it because galway objected because we spelt a players name wrong, something as minimal as letter missing ohara spelt ohare. We had to go back and play connacht final again and lost..

It always makes me laugh these past glories, alot was more to do with corruption in the GAA than being the best team back then. Above is one example.

We one a all ireland junior in 1935.

Galway are the hoors. I believe Cavan played them in a semi in Tuam back in the day and the crowd were coming onto the pitch to tackle the Cavan players. Its a famous enough story in some of  the GAA annuals down the years. Sure we were going  to break away and form our own province once too and we even played in Leinster for the craic one time.

Back to the topic at hand. I think Laois are most likely but still I don't think there is much chance of a break through for them. But then again, it took Armagh a long time and a lot of soar defeats before they got across the line so you never know.
