Give the job to the King of the Whingers - Brian McEniff.

The GAA

In fairness, the clubs are entitled to accept or dismiss the county board's recommendation. something similar occurred in meath last week.

a motion of no confidence in the chair should have been proposed as he couldn't get the job done.

STATEMENT FROM DONEGAL PLAYERS

October 24, 2008

The Donegal senior football squad would like to express its serious disappointment with the manner in which the Donegal Co Board selection committee has handled the appointment of a new manager.

The squad recently conveyed its views on the removal of Brian McIver and offered to consult with the Board during the selection process to find a suitable replacement. Although a commitment was given by the Board executive that the squad would indeed be contacted, no communication was received by the players during the process. We believe that we had a valuable role to play in the selection process and that the Board executive and selection committee have made a serious mistake by failing to consult with the squad.

The players wish to make it clear that we have no issue with any of the candidates for the job, and we believe all hold valid credentials. However, in light of the breakdown of the appointment process, we would call on club delegates now to reappraise the position of a number of senior executives in the Co Board.

Bonner clarifies DRA appeal
05 November 2008

Declan Bonner has insisted that the appeal made to the Disputes Resolution Authority on behalf of both himself and his former Donegal joint-managerial candidate, Charlie Mulgrew, has been issued to try and iron out the problems of the managerial selection process in the county.

On Monday night John Joe Doherty was confirmed as Donegal's new senior football manager, but Bonner has explained that there are no plots to try and threaten the Naomh Mhuire clubman's new position.

"We have an application made to the DRA to get the selection process thrown out," said Bonner. "An awful lot of things don't add up."

"This has nothing to do with a personality clash with any of the candidates. It's to do with the county selection committee and the way the whole thing was handled. We believe the process was totally flawed from the start.

"We're not taking an appeal to get John Joe out of the position. I'm not interested in becoming the next team manager - but I am interested in getting the process sorted out, for the sake of Donegal football, as this has been an absolute shambles from the outset."

Bonner believes that the Tir Chonaill County has now become "the laughing stock of the country" over the shambolic process to appoint Brian McIver's replacemet and admits that a lot of relationships in the county have been tested.

"An awful lot of relationships have been strained over this and it's down to the three main officers of the Board.

"I asked them to step down on Monday night and my club put a proposal through the correct channels and procedures, but they still didn't put it on the agenda.

"We are the laughing stock of the country over this. It's an absolute disgrace the way we've been treated, the way we John Joe has been treated, and the way candidates have been treated."

QuoteDeclan Bonner and Charlie Mulgrew have lost the case they took against the Donegal county board to the Disputes Resolution Authority [DRA] over the manner in which John Joe Doherty was appointed as manager.

The duo were due to be ratified on a joint management ticket in October before it emerged that Doherty had been offered the job before it was rejected by the chairman of the county board.

Doherty spoke at a county board meeting and when the details of the offer emerged, he was later ratified to take over Brian McIver's position by club delegates.

However, Bonner and Mulgrew, former team-mates of Doherty, claimed the appointment process was flawed and took their case to the DRA.

A DRA statement read: "The Tribunal finds however that overall the Respondents did act within the principles of fairness and natural justice in this instance.

"The Claimants have failed to satisfy this Tribunal that there was sufficient evidence of unfair procedures or lack of due process in relation to the appointment of the Manager of the Donegal Senior Football team.

"The decision of this Tribunal is that we refuse the Claimants the relief sought or any relief. This is the unanimous decision of the Tribunal."

It would be interesting to know how much the case cost them.  It must have been sponsored by someone to the tune of 10K+.

I'd say some sort of agreement was made to sweep this under the carpet. If they were to be successful and the appointment was opened up again it would have caused complete turmoil, much greater than what has gone before. I would think someone involved in Donegal GAA would have paid whatever was needed to 'lose this case' and get on with the football side of things. I would imagine 10K+ would not have been required.
