My oldest is making the confirmation next year, note came home to say it is on a weekday at 5pm, is this unique or are weekday evening confirmations now the norm?

I made mine on a Thursday evening 50 odd years ago,I thought they were always held on Thursdays.

It's been creeping in over the past few years. There are a few spots in Belfast where First Communion is made on a school day during the early afternoon. Thankfully, in my parish, it is still 11am on a spring Sunday and two hours long!
The schools have very little input - the Diocesan Office just sends them a date and time and they organise the Bishop's schedule but I do know of one school Principal who stood his ground and insisted on a Sunday.
I've also heard of a few parishes where the Bishop no longer attends - senior Parish Priest deputises.

Who's a bit of a moaning Michael tonight!

Confirmations in our diocese depend on the bishop. I was confirmed on a Saturday in June 14 years ago. I don't recall any June confirmations since!

Yes, I was confirmed about 1970 or 1971 (like Gerry Adams says it was a turbulent and fluctuating time in North Belfast so my recollection of events is a tad hazy), but I'm sure it was a Thursday evening and it was December too.
