A cohort of very versatile players playing in different positions week on week

We need specialists and continuity

Incoherent at 11 since the last All-Ireland, we absolutely need someone there who is a scoring/playmaking threat and not a join the dot workhorse

Ulster U20 Group A Round One
Down 0-11 3-15 Tyrone

Defending U20 All-Ireland Champions Tyrone began their Ulster campaign with a strong second half display resulting in a 13-point victory over Down in Burren.
Down were well in the game at the break, with the sides level 0-7 to 1-4, but two more Tyrone goals and 11 points to Downs four was emphatic for Paul Devlin's team.

The hosts came out of the blocks promisingly, with four points on the board before Tyrone got a meaningful touch on the ball.
Eoghan Travers came close to a goal from throw-in but Tyrone netminder Conor McAneaney made the close-range save for a '45 that Travers sent between the sticks.
Meanwhile Down goalkeeper DJ Farrell was spending most of his time in the attack line and it paid off as he hit a two-pointer and a single score to give his side a four-point lead.
Tyrone settled after that and it seemed they had gained control when points from Noah Grimes, Daragh Donaghy and Ruairi McCullagh preceded a goal from Conor O'Neill following a lovely one-two with captain Joey Clarke.
Still, there was no shaking the home side at that stage, as Travers raised an orange flag to stop the rot and with two more scores at either end, the sides were level 0-7 to 1-4 at half-time.

Tyrone senior player Eoin McElholm came on at-half-time and was dominant straight away with a point and four more to follow.
On 35 minutes Clarke once again set up Liam Og Mossey for the second goal that put Tyrone 2-6 to 0-8 to the good and while Down weren't ready to throw in the towel yet, the signs were there.
They almost pulled a maximum back when Callan Morgan dropped a free attempt short and Lorcan Ward rolled the ball inches wide of the empty net but Tyrone went straight down the field and while a Grimes goal was disallowed as a square ball, McElholm put them six in front from the resulting free.
It was plain sailing for the champions after that, with two points and a third goal from McElhattan giving them an unassailable 3-13 to 0-9 lead and while Travers converted a two-point free to put his side into double digits, Tyrone ran out comfortable winners.

Slow start for the U20's but when they got settled and going in the second half they never looked in doubt. Squad depth looked good with their introductions from the bench, Michael McIlhatten and Eoin Donaghy in particular. McElhom was also brilliant when he came on.

Is Caolan Donnelly Fintona injured? Why is Charlie Donnelly not on the panel?

I assume because he doesn't play senior football for trillick? Same as Nathan farry who was a big presence in those minor teams.

Obviously trillick have a lot of talent but I don't think either Charlie or Nathan even came close to coming on as a sub for them in the club championship. You can't expect to make a county u20 team if you can't even get on your own Club side.

Is this a serious post ?
Trillick have 6 senior county panellists, add in Lee Brennan, the second Gray, Daire and Michael Gallagher and there aren't many spots left.
If the two lads in question played for Gortin would you say they were good enough.
Surely lads should be judged on how good they are as opposed to how good their club team is

marty34

Does each county pick their U20 panel differently?

Trials or just ask 35 lads onto the panel?

I'm not judging them based on club. But no doubt a significant factor on getting selected for the u20 panel is experience and performance playing in club league and championship. It doesn't matter whether that is junior, senior or intermediate.

For example, Conall sheehy from cookstown wouldn't have been involved at minor level. But stood out playing for his club last year. The two trillick lads haven't had a chance to show their ability at that club level.

Chatting to a lad there, says there's a lot of good things going on in Augher at the minute, alot of new sturctures being put in place at youth level, so keep an eye out for Augher in the next few years, think if they can out of the depths of hell in Junior they can really push on.

Ok Fabrizo.. Second post and its on the Tyrone board while your first being on the Antrim board. Clearly unaware of the recent happenings in Augher lol. Mckenna (the prince of Augher) a club he dragged to win a few championships has left his club years ago due to the amalgamation of primary schools targeting protestants to join. Now McKenna hopes and begs people to forget his success as he would much rather be known as Donaghmore man than an Augher man. So i suggest you go and find a different county & club to write about. Bullsh!t nonsense has taken this board by storm, really hope the moderators of this board can find away to minimise this sh1t.

This board is for voicing an opinion and that opinion i voiced wasnt even my own it was the words from an Augher man, i was aware of the ongoings of Mckenna a great servant to Augher and of course Tyrone, it must break the hearts of Augher to know their greatest ever player had to pack his bags and leave the club, that on its own must have grounds to look at your club for improvement. i am not an Augher man myself but i am from a small club who have been stuck down there before in Junior and its not nice, i believe there are many sleeping giants of tryone football down there.  I myself a proud tryone man heared a rumour about young Quinn from the island and wanted to see if they on that board had heared anything. That response to a comment i made epitomizes Tyrone as a county we need to be together and grow the game in these areas and want to see them improve.
