Just booked my MOT for earliest date I could get. January. Car insurance runs out in December. Will I be able to ensure the car before I get my MOT?

You should be shopping around for insurance now anyway. You can pay for it now and have it start the day your current premium expires.

I think you'll be uninsured for the period between Dec and Jan. I have a similar issue but only for a few days as my tax is 30th Sept and MOT on 5th Oct but car is insured (unless the bastards have some small print about it being void without tax).

Not exactly on this topic but does fully comprehensive insurance entitle the policy holder to drive any car, albeit just with third party cover, as long as it is insured
Careful now

No it's not automatic and I remember querying it with a company and was told they didn't even know until my policy documents were generated - a lot of the time you won't see it on quotes so you need to be careful.

The insurance policy generally covers the car, not the individual. If your policy includes Open Driving, it means that other qualified drivers, with your permission, can drive your car. Not that you can drive whatever car you want.

When does your MOT run out? Keep hitting the MOT site every morning and cancellations will eventually come up.

There is a bit more lenience these days but keep looking every morning for cancellations. You should eventually get something though it will take a bit of persistence.

Yeah likewise. There is a thing you can pay 12.99 for and it seems to be able to get a date for you (automated) but I really resent paying that. I am supposed to have mine in December and will git the same fate too. Can't recall the link for it but if I can find it I'll fire it on.

Keep checking  a couple times a day for 5 minutes . Keep refreshing page. Something is sure  to turn up.

You might  get a cancelled date  for that evening so have the car washed  /lights checked etc and ready to  go in a hurry

The website is great. I booked one last week for one 3 days away. Could have had it that day only it didn't suit. Don't know where you are located but I'm sure you have 3 or 4 you could go to? Shouldn't have any bother.

WHAT IS DOC INSURANCE?
Driving other cars (DOC) cover allows drivers to drive any other car with a third-party only level of cover, even if your own policy is fully comprehensive.

With this type of cover you don't need to be a named driver or take out temporary car insurance to drive other cars.

Unfortunately, a lot of insurance policies do not include DOC anymore - but it has not gone away completely. You'll need to check the terms and conditions of your comprehensive car insurance to see if you've got DOC cover and what that includes.

Driving without the necessary insurance is illegal, so should always be sure you're covered before getting behind the wheel.

Does insurance not stand on a car that is not MOT'd?

Literally couldn't get one until Jan. will keep checking back. Same thing happened last year - tho not as long to the initial one - and I managed to get one
