Derry County Board deserve top marks for keeping  all of us in suspense re the identity  of the new Derry football manager! Their sense of omerta is really watertight. RTE Radio went a step further yesterday  to really confuse us, in their weekly Sunday Sports programme, by naming a candidate whom we know will not get the job!! Hopefully the County Board do know!!

Owenbeg has everything these days, 4g pitch, video analysis room, state of the art gym, even the canteen which wasn't very old has been renovated, 4 training pitches if I'm counting right plus the stadium pitch. On the administrative side the offices and meeting rooms have been recently renovated to

Sure whoever comes in now, it'll be their choice, does it matter how far down the pecking order it is? It's a plum job. The problem is, where are the available plum managers?

Only someone extremely immature would worry about whether or not they're first choice. The bottom line is it's a plum job with a team who are reigning league champions, won 2 of the last 3 Ulster championships, been in 2 AI semi finals in the last 3 years, have won a couple of u17 AIs in the last few years and have 2 AI club champions in the last 3 years. The county board are getting stick but most decisions they've made in the last few years have worked out well. The worst thing we can do is rush this decision. We wanted MOR but he obviously felt it wasn't the job for him. The sooner we get someone the better but it's important to cast the net widely to get the best possible candidate.
