I'm sure the Glen players like Glass are disappointed and maybe a bit disgusted. It's bound to sour their relationship and gives rivals like ourselves and slaughtneil a good bit of hope. Any Ulster rivals will be glad to see it also.
Club season over in a few months, no reason he can't see that out. Little to be disgusted about, it was a business relationship.

He'd a 50/50 record against McGuinness as Monaghan boss. Is Jim's dominance over Tyrone about to end? 🙂

An Watcher

Better than Mickeys record no doubt

MOR is entitled to do what suits him and leaving Glen isn't an issue. I'm sure players like Glass have tried to persuade MOR to take on the Derry job and he's rebuffed them. To now put himself forward for the job in a rival county wouldn't sit well. I don't think the relationship there will be an easy one for the rest of his time there.

Bit of karma.. although Malachy came out of Tyrone in the first place.

Looks to be the fault of Derry CB and no one else. Presumably MOR would be close enough with Glass and the rest and would have been easy enough to coax into the Derry job.

Duine Inteacht Eile

Maybe he just didn't want it and it's understandable.
Half the county think Rory Gallagher should be there. Mickey Harte gets roaded after a lock of months, having won a national league.
There is potential in Derry but it's also a bit of a shitshow that people may want to steer clear of.

. Get that feeling too. Although Meath isn't much better

Nobody really knows what's going on. I've heard O'Rourke was approached by Tyrone around Easter for next season and said if the lads stepped down he would take the job. At that stage Derry were National League Champions and looked like Mickey was flying in which case it's just all a case of bad timing.

The truth might come out at some stage but my understanding is Derry CB have ruled out Gallagher and are nowhere with a new appointment!

Derry Optimist

I have no doubt that Screen exile is totally correct about the sequence of events re Malachy 0'Rourke's previous interest in Tyrone and Derry's current  ruling out of a return for Rory Gallagher. It was the hasty action of some well-meaning individuals in the meantime which gave the wrong impression that the Derry CB were fully behind a comeback for the former manager. In other words MOR had already committed himself to joining Tyrone both in the past( a few years ago) and last Easter in the event of their present Joint managers stepping down. Likewise Derry CB could not prevent some of their clubs nominating Rory Gallagher in the interests of democracy. This they did but there  was no overall support for his candidature in the current situation.

I believe it will be some time yet before a new and different manager will be appointed.

That's an accurate summary of what happened screenexile.

Derry should have camped on MoR's doorstep last September but stupidly held out due to misplaced loyalty to Gallagher. The eventual approach was shambolic and amateurish. Man at the helm is out of his depth. We deserve better.

Who are Derry's  genuine/ realistic options if we say MOR & RG are non starter s?

Would Derry not chase Conleith Gilligan?... Johnny McBride.. is good men in Derry

redzone

Harsh reality is MOR doesn't want a bit of Derry senior team. Why would he. Even their own from within the county won't touch it. Greatest crowd of bitches within the Gaa. Look at some of the posts about him here for leaving Glen after all he's done. Meenagh had the job if he wanted it and chose to go to Down and the Tailteen cup instead.
