A surprise?
Reached their ceiling?

Although been desperately unlucky with group draws in the championship the part 2 years.

Harte to Westmeath??

Weatmeath would not be totally different from Louth in the overall scheme of things.

Might be a realisation that they are not going to bridge the gap to the level above them - 5 point loss to Armagh, 4 point loss to Galway and 4 point loss to Derry are all very respectable looking scorelines but if Dolan doesn't see much hope of narrowing that gap/taking the next step up any time soon he's probably better off moving on.

Highly likely that their league campaign will be a fight against relegation so not all that tempting.

Westmeath could well be a team who yoyo up and down between Sam and Tailteann the next while.

Fingers crossed RTE don't let him back on the air again. Nice lad but he's really not suited to broadcasting.

Harte to Westmeath??
why not?

Would the money be there and also Westmeath seem to be fairly well sorted defensively so not sure there would be any easy gains for Harte to make.

Optimist view they have the ability to be a solid division 2 team, maybe look towards promotion in a year or 2 if they could consolidate their position and compete with Louth to be number 2 in Leinster and if the Dubs decline then who knows. Pessimist view they'll never get near Dublin in Leinster and yoyo between division 2 and 3 over the next few years.

Hard to know what they'll do but all I do know is they're a very solid and tough team to beat as we found out 2 years in a row.

I'd imagine when you get on to this merry-go-round gravy train that some of the bigger clubs sides would be paying equally as well as the county set ups with less than half the hassle.
