If Mayo had put up a poor showing against Dublin yesterday then I think they'd be more likely to put Derry to the sword perversely. It really depends which Derry turn up and also which Mayo turn up. Mayo will maybe be ok as long as Dublin didn't take too much out of them but who knows with Derry.

Derry need to keep a tight reign on ROD who's becoming very instrumental for Mayo.

See if that trend is broken this year.

3 out of 4 did ... Monaghan won on penos ::)

Quote from: Crete Boom on June 17, 2024, 09:57:03 AMI think if Derry show up at all they will have enough to take us in McHale Park. We have no penetration against a mass defence apart from O"Shea and O"Donoghue so if Derry crowd them out and stop Ruane's runs forward we won't score much more than 9 or 10 points and we never create many goal chances against a mass defence. We will need to get Cillian a lot on the ball to try and score from out around the 45 as Flynn and Carney seemed too hesitant to take on long range points and we will miss the running power of McLaughlin and Durcan, but if I know this you can be sure Harte does to and will have a plan to stop it. Throw in the massive effort that counted for nothing against the Dubs and I just don't see us having enough in the tank for this one unless we are lucky enough that the reported rifts in the Derry camp might put them off their game enough for us to scrape through.

Have you seen Derry play in the championship this year?
Dublin game might not have been a spectacle, but in comparison to how we've been playing it'll be like a Div1 v Div3 side.
Its possible we turn a corner, but with injuries, form and tactical naivety so far this year - I'm not hopeful.

Tyrone v Roscommon

Louth v Cork

Mayo v Derry

That's a great draw, and with opposing provinces, and i expect them all to be tight.

Galway
Roscommon
Lout
Mayo

Only thing in Derrys favour is Mayo play man on man, and that opened them up very badly in the league game. That's a long time ago now though.

See if that trend is broken this year.

Trend more likely to continue.

Four likely Prelim winners are Tyrone,Cork,Mayo and Galway.

Armagh is probably the team Cork,Mayo and Tyrone will be hoping to get should they reach the last 8. Playing three games in 14 days against rested Donegal spells defeat for me and if any of them face Kerry,Dublin a possible trimming awaits.

Can Tyrone and Donegal meet AGAIN??

Unfortunately not!!!

There was serious dejection on Mayo faces after yesterday's draw, how much that takes out of them and how much Derry up their game after a win on Saturday, should be intriguing.

If theres one team that suits going the hard route traditionally it's Mayo!

Looks like they avoid repeats "where possible".

The four first-place teams from Round 1 (Group Stage) shall be drawn to play against the four Preliminary Quarter-Finals winners, subject in the first instance to the avoidance of repeat Provincial Final pairings and where possible repeat pairings from Round 1 (Group Stage).

So first and foremost, Dublin will avoid Louth.

After that, they'll try to have Armagh avoid Galway and Derry, Donegal avoid Tyrone and Cork, and Dublin avoid Mayo and the Rossies, and Kerry avoid Louth and Monaghan.

So for us, we should get one of Mayo, Derry, Galway, Roscommon, Monaghan and Louth.

IMO, we're most likely looking at Mayo or Galway in Croke Park. We have a very poor record against Mayo this last decade.

I seen nothing at the weekend that shows Derry have sorted the mess out. Against very middling opposition they were lucky not to cough up another few ridiculous goals, the confidence was on the floor and only a late goal saw them to safety. McStay seemed very focused on the next challenge after drawing with the Dubs while Harte is going over nonsense about critics and empty vessels.. a tactic he uses to employ a siege mentality. Can't see  Derry win...

McStay in his interview after the match yesterday had a right good dig at those on a Mayo gaa podcast that suggested Mayo wouldn't be going out to beat Dublin and would contain energy for this knock out tie. Wafflers he called them.
