General discussion / Re: America`s Gun Culture
« on: August 09, 2019, 04:24:45 PM »

Iím all for gun regulation and extremely tight regulation at that. Iím in favor of a gun buyback program. Iím in favor of people needing to take out extra homeowners insurance. Iím in favor of taking away guns from domestic abusers, substance abusers and anyone with a criminal record. Iím in favor of upping the age at which people can buy guns. Iím in favor of banning high capacity magazines. Iím in favor abolishing open carry laws. Iím in favor of restricting the storage and use of assault weapons to secure shooting ranges. Iím in favor of background checks that include a trip to the proctologist

What Iím not of favor of is an overblown knee jerk reaction to ban assault weapons that  provides some great talking points to CNN but will prevent less than 1% of gun deaths

With the amount of gun deaths in America surely that less than 1% is still a significant number . . . you'd rather more people died than CNN get something to talk about??!!

Weird!

Twitter going mad for the Christian Wade TD last night for the Bills. It was impressive for his first ever touch.  I read somewhere that he goes into the practice squads for this season though.

It's still only preseason so he'll have some work to do this month to get on the main roster. He didn't get another carry after his TD!

I thought under the rules of the international development pathway he can only make the practice squad this year (but doesnít count against the maximum number there) however he is not allowed on the main roster.

Shit sorry you're right they can only practice this year then they are eligible to play next year.

Have threatened to watch it but read thereís some dodgy moments in it.

I imagine it to be a bit like Skins which was enjoyable but probably an over dramatic take on teenage life.

very interesting that joe and friends have nothing to say about the ticket fiasco currently going on for the semi finals. they'll bicker and whinge for weeks on end about the sky deal, but when it comes to real fans and club members and the like being shafted by the gaa you dont hear a peep out of them. because it has no effect on them. joe brolly and the likes really only care about themselves and their jobs.

Real fans your hole, this the the bandwagoners jumping on at this stage, I doubt any real fan will be denied a ticket.

You don't think there will be some disappointed fans this weekend not getting to the Dubs/Mayo match??!! What is a 'real fan' anyway??

I'm not able to get to as many games as used to or would like to with a young family but I help out with underage at the club and sell tickets when I can do I count as a real fan? Does someone who goes to every County match but doesn't bother with their club count??!!

I'd love to know the definition of a 'real fan'!

If he goes then surely it will be based on his significant pay increase.

Now that makes more sense!!!

Will the Eriksen deal happen?? Seems strange to go to United in his position and forfeit Champions League football. At best United will be on a par with Spurs in the league.
Not sure if it will happen but wouldn't think it too strange. United are a much bigger club and probably have a better chance of winning trophies in the near future.

Based on??

Just curious on this one... as someone who doesn't live in Belfast.....is there a cogent economic argument to be made for public money to be used in a H&W bail out (over AN Other local company that's failing), given they only employ 120 odd staff, or it is more a symbolic issue?

Symbolic issue... load of balls they see themselves as some kind of iconic Belfast industry but they built an unsinkable ship that f**king sank and were the posterboy for treating Catholics as second class citizens f**k them they shouldn't get special treatment!!!

We'll keep the cranes though!

Anderson is to Unionism what Foster is to nationalism. A gift. She fulfils all the stereotypes that paranoid unionists have of the nationalist/republican population. Whilst I do think that there is a certain amount of faux outrage when these incidents occur, an elected representative should really know better than to rabble rouse in this manner.

Agree.

Both are actually doing more harm than good to their respective causes.

Once the EU seat goes Martina should be quietly pensioned off.

What would it take to get rid of Michelle though. Was she not anointed by wee Martin?

She a waste of space, she was probably chosen because she was female, there can be no other reason - one of the most useless voices in politics.

By all accounts she's a very good and hard working politician behind the scenes but she can't handle the leadership role her voice and communication are not at the level they should be for such a position she doesn't come across well on radio or tv unfortunately!!
