General discussion / Re: America`s Gun Culture
« on: August 09, 2019, 04:11:03 PM »

I知 all for gun regulation and extremely tight regulation at that. I知 in favor of a gun buyback program. I知 in favor of people needing to take out extra homeowners insurance. I知 in favor of taking away guns from domestic abusers, substance abusers and anyone with a criminal record. I知 in favor of upping the age at which people can buy guns. I知 in favor of banning high capacity magazines. I知 in favor abolishing open carry laws. I知 in favor of restricting the storage and use of assault weapons to secure shooting ranges. I知 in favor of background checks that include a trip to the proctologist

What I知 not of favor of is an overblown knee jerk reaction to ban assault weapons that  provides some great talking points to CNN but will prevent less than 1% of gun deaths

Will a change in the constitution take one single solitary gun out of the hands of a criminal?

Really really interesting comment that gets bandied about a lot. I assume by criminal, you mean a bad guy - with a gun. Chicago, LA. Gangs, Convenience store robbers etc...?

The folks who are committing these mass shootings usually aren't a criminal in the sense that gun advocates use the term - right up until the moment they plan, snap, and start shooting up kids.

So, would a change in the constitution prevent any of these atrocities? Of course it would. Would it change common criminality - perhaps. Perhaps not.

Either way, one is a common place issue in almost all societies and for want of a better word - a resignation of society that there will be a criminal element that takes up our resources and keeps folks awake at night and scared when they walk down a dark alley... Mass slaughter of folks in a day time mall/school/cinema is not.

Is it not a bonfire about internment? 2 storeys high.

Yep, Run by youngsters who wouldn't know a damn thing about internment.

Nolan had a spot on it yesterday I think. Shocking that the community is being held to ransom by some halfwits. Then it degenerated into the usual nonsense with the Mervyn's from Larne giving their 2 cent's worth.

You will bounce up a couple points here and there, but wholesale changes shouldn't really impact.

We have a revision on the 1st and 15th of every month. I just revised to 10.3, which interestingly at a course rating of 138 gives me a course handicap of 13 instead of 12.

65 was the speed limit. Just about every other driver on the road seems to think speed limits are a suggestion. I feel like a snail driving at the speed limit.

You're using the Californian freeway speed limit to make a point? That's a cracker!

Fair play to you being able to get it up to 65 on the Bay Bridge. Must have been 1am.

GUI is about to introduce the slopes system for handicaps from next year, any ideas how it works?

We're on the slope rating over here. Each course is rated on level of difficulty, as is each set of tee boxes. You will carry a handicap index with you. When you get to a course, you will put your index into the computer against the slope rating for that course and that set of tee boxes and it will give you a course handicap.

You post every round of golf unless you are playing by yourself. Single player rounds do not count to handicapping. The system will track your last 20 rounds of golf, and automatically kick out the worst 10 rounds. Your handicap index is a function of the average of the best 10 rounds out of your last 20.

For Example.

My Index: 10.1
My Course Rating from the 1 up tees: 138
My Course Handicap from the 1 up tees: 12

The downside of this handicap system (which revises every 2 weeks) is that it doesn't take into consideration the day to day playing rating of the course (i.e. the standard scratch) for any given day. Wind howls at my course it's a total bear. Plays at least 2-3 strokes harder.

Woke up to the news about the photos of the queen being taken down in the NI Office.

Thought, I must listen to Nolan this morning. It has not disappointed. Rubber stamping the idiocracy of the NI unionists and Loyalists.

I see some fella got E1.1m for wrongful arrest by the Gardai. I'm happy for them to duff me up a bit for a million.

Source?  That is just teasing.

Not the last lawsuit out of that story

The jury of six women and five men, reduced to 11 after one juror had to go on a pre-booked holiday because the trial went over the scheduled five days, deliberated for nearly 6ス hours over two days.

Saw the video. Let's call a spade a spade. It's stupid, indefensible and shouldn't have happened. Does absolutely nothing for the GAA's reputation with the other side. No point in saying 'sure themmuns are worse'. We should be above that.

All of this. Let's call a spade a spade as well and state that the Catholic/Nationalist communities in Northern Ireland are light years ahead of their Protestant/Loyalist counterparts when it comes to trying to drag Northern Ireland forward in a fruitful light. That's exactly why incidents like this create a 2 steps back situation for the C/N community and the GAA and deflates their cross community efforts. The other side don't give a f**k about anything except red white and blue and all that goes with it, and they're happy to wallow in welfare and attempt to eat their flags at the expense of the success of their communities, all under the guise of culture.

We're better than that. At least we should be.

The guards.
Oops. Thanks for that. Agree with your sentiments on this thread by the way

As do I, I have a hard time with the inability of some to understand the multiple layers of devastation and complexity here and that having empathy for the other victims of this horrible circumstance in NO WAY implies a lack of understanding and thought to the heart shattering loss and brutal truth suffered by the Kriegel family at the hands of what are still children themselves.

Trying to watch a game in a pub in peace, and someone who will literally not shut the f**k up about every little thing that happens

Not to be awkward or anything, but why would you want to watch a game "in peace" by going to the pub? Is it not part of the experience to have other people shouting and roaring with you at the screen?

Yet you can't understand proper use of an answer to a multifaceted question such as "Yes or No"?

Is Eamonn a weird cat? Yes, and No.

Way too early to speculate given there's a summer of transfers to occur, but here goes.....

I don't think there's any way Liverpool will match the points total of last year, but high 80s, maybe 90 is doable.

So need City to regress a bit to give us a chance of winning the league. To put 2 back-to-back league seasons together like they have is incredible. Losing Kompany will be a big dent, and I've an inkling that Sergio will move on (clearly doesn't get on with Pep), and he'd be a huge loss. Although no doubt they'll spend big again and add some new names.

Assuming Chelsea lose Hazard, then I think United are best placed for 3rd. Although I'm very unsure about Solksjaer.

I think if any of the top 6 get their hands on Declan Rice it would improve them hugely.

Think it's already official - revealed by RM last week.

Hard to see much change at the top. With Chelsea losing hazard I think it makes the battle for 3rd and 4th a little more open.
