General discussion / Fraudsters/Con men (or women :D )
« on: November 28, 2018, 01:23:46 PM »

Was watching Spotlight on the other night and these fraudsters, or con men for the want of a better word were ripping peopleís life savings off with very clever financial techniques, with fancy offices and tailor made suits these guys had the appearance of a genuine profitable financial company with a great looking website and profitable returns promised!

The ploy was asking people for money which they said they would hold and if anything, lets say went tits up (not their words) they would still have their £10,000 safe, but should things work out as they see the market go then that £10,000 could turn into 20 or 30 grand very quickly, now obviously they went into a lot of detail with how they would do it and so on, but at the end of the day they were just stealing peopleís savings and they never paid it back as the contracts were made up in such a way that they held all the aces regardless of the promises that the initial loan was always going to be safe!

They were from Bangor and had set up previous companies under different names after each of them were closed due to financial irregularities. they have since the Spotligt show, set up in London under a different name.

Iím wondering how common is it to be fooled/scammed by these f**kers? They targeted small business owners and the likes of people with good jobs who had cash in the bank that wasnít making them money, so it wasnít your old granny without a pot to piss in.

I've no savings so they would be wasting their time on me  ;D

General discussion / Soccer child abuse scandals

Surprised it hasnt be brought to light by the usual thread starters.. Seems more and more clubs have had a history of this and Chelsea only recently 'paid off' and person who was abused while at their club...

Will our local clubs soccer/rugby/GAA be looking into their own affairs? We have excellent child protection courses but how many are vetted properly ?

General discussion / The medical thread

Thought I'd get this topic up before Seafoid did ;D

Any illness and ways you've dealt with them

Are doctors (GP's) just doing the basic checks or with the power of Internet is it better to self diagnose and self medicate rather than time spent at local surgery?

And with the likes of Randox health checks is it better to get a kit that could check your blood, cholesterol, blood pressure and other things that the normal GP carried out

General discussion / London

Heading to London this summer with the family, Booked flights for early July and plan to stay for 5 days, obviously looking to do the usual stuff, take in a show (Les Miserables, Maltilda, or others ) London Eye, Harry Potter studio tour (for the kids  ;) ) Madame Tussauds and other stuff... Looking to book a hotel or rent an apartment .... Premier Inns have prices ranging from £555 to £800 depending on location... Earls Court was the cheapest rate .. any experience on these?

Looking tips on travel also, tube over bus? Prices like five day family passes and the like ? Looked at booking a show and prices on tickets are cheaper than what the actual price is plus booking fee! is it cheaper to get when we get there or is there a chance of missing out on the show???

Would love to have most of this paid before getting there as I'm sure I'll spend a fortune over the 5 days!

General discussion / Sales
« on: July 22, 2014, 09:33:32 PM »
Mates been offered a post in medical sales, totally out of his comfort zone but the wages  (targets met obviously) seem more than reasonable, no cold calling or any of that, the public phone for appointments so that side of things isn't too bad.

Anybody ever taken a job that's been out of their comfort zone and it has worked out for them?

List the (in your opinion) films in which they delivered their top performance

Clint Eastwood
Al Pacino
Robert DeNiro
Michael J Fox
Sean Penn
Christian Bale
Jack Nicholson
Daniel Day Lewis
Tom Hanks
Jimmy Stewart
John Wayne
Dustin Hoffman
Johnny Depp
Morgan Freeman
Anthony Hopkins
Leonardo DiCaprio
Sidney Poitier
Spencer Tracy
Paul Newman
Steve McQueen
Russell Crowe
Kirk Douglas
Michael Douglas
Jack Lemon
Kevin Spacey
Gene Hackman
Jeff Bridges
Christopher Walken
Alec Guinness
Richard Burton

Ok only a few to get it started  ;)

General discussion / The how do you fix.......... thread
« on: March 07, 2014, 11:16:02 AM »
How do you fix an alarm?

Friend of mine alarm went off when the electric went out in the area last week, came home and the alarm was going off, she never used it before and didn't have the code for it (It's in an apartment complex) I think eventually she unscrewed it or whatever to make it stop.

Was wondering is there a way of resetting it and putting in a new code so she can use it?

I imagine it's connected to the mains and that's why it went off

General discussion / employment laws
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:48:55 PM »
Any experts on here? Friend of mine was working for a company for 4 odd years, his attendance at start wasn't the worst but wasn't the best either, though in his work there are no clock in system and he was never pulled for it or got a warning for it either. Last 2 years it dramatically improved and all good. He recently went for another job, totally different discipline and got the job after 2 interviews/presentations. So he handed in his 4 week notice all good. Employers not that really bothered.

His new employers phoned him to say say that they won't be taking him on as a reference that they sent out had been filled in with both timekeeping and attendance filled as being poor, now he's no job!! If there are no records of poor attendance and bad timekeeping has he a case with the industrial tribunal on an employer filling in reference unfairly?
