"Willie Barrett: Referees must clamp down on the number of illegal handpasses in hurling"

About bloody time. Just because you flick the hand doesn't make it a legal pass

GAA Discussion / Ball stopper behind goals
« on: July 28, 2018, 03:22:23 PM »
Our club are currently looking into getting a ball stopper for behind one of our goals to stop stray balls going across a juvenile pitch and training area. both football and hurling.
Has anybody got a system installed recently in their club, are you happy with it, what company did you use and what was the approx cost?
thanks in advance.

don't know why HQ would be actively promoting fundraising for one county
don't know why an educational institute like Tralee IT would start building facilities without the funding in place

Hurling Discussion / New Hurling Championship Format
« on: May 10, 2017, 08:22:18 AM »
what do people think about the proposal for a round robin stage at the provincial championship stage?

any new format needs to have a slot or two for the tier 2 teams to qualify eg Westmeath, Laois, Kerry, Meath

GAA Discussion / Community Centre design/plans
« on: February 26, 2017, 11:02:52 PM »
Hello. Our club is in the process of design/layout for a community centre to cater for our rural GAA club and a few other community organisations.

Has anyone got experience in this area?
What are the downfalls of any projects you have seen or been involved with?
Any clever little design ideas?
Have you any links to other projects?

any help welcome. from size, to what to include or leave out.
we have an engineer on board giving advice for free, but generally engineers don't know very much about building design. we don't have a Dermot Bannon in the club to put in windows everywhere!

GAA Discussion / Under 12 championships - no more Go Games
« on: January 14, 2017, 10:15:41 PM »
Has anyone else heard the rule change at Under 12 level that 13 a side championships are to be allowed run in football and hurling thus doing away with the Go Games format at U12 level, which has been pared back to U11 level?

General discussion / Phone recommendations
« on: December 07, 2016, 02:56:22 PM »
Fellow boarders
I'm looking to get herself a new unlocked phone.
neither of us go in for bill pay phones, waste of money.
anyway, she doesn't want one of those huge phones, so it has to be under 14cm

any recommendations? its hard to find a decent smaller smart phone these days.
phones seem to have gotten huge
cheers

Hurling Discussion / Hurling Semi Finals
« on: August 04, 2016, 12:17:11 AM »
The hurling championship needs two good semi finals

There hasn't been a real top quality game all year that went down to the last 10 minutes

I fancy Waterford to give Kilkenny plenty of it in Sunday and maybe play a bit more off the cuff than they have all year. The overly defensive gameplan was found out v Tipp who caught the ball and handpassed past the cover. Kilkenny are even better at this aspect of gameplay.
Kilkenny by 2 or 3 is my prediction

Why are Inter County referees allowed to referee county training games? Are county referees that hard up that they need the money from these games?
Surely there are plenty of other referees who can do these in-house games?

It confers an unfair advantage on those counties who do this, as the referees become very familiar with the players in those panels and sub-consciously will treat them differently than other players and teams.

The GAA and Referees Committee need to clamp down on this
The penalty for an inter county referee who does this should be immediate demotion from the referees panel.

You wouldn't get the likes of Mark Clattenburg refereeing training games at Man City

General discussion / Gang Mowers - cutting playing field
« on: January 05, 2016, 03:42:32 PM »
Hello all

our club is looking at buying a 3-unit gang mower for our field to cut the grass
it will basically be towed behind a small tractor or jeep, once the ground hardens in the summer
we have been using a normal tractor mower and it doesn't do a great job once there is good grass growth.

has anyone advice on the best option or where to source one?
thanks

GAA Discussion / An Uachtarán, Aogán Ó Fearghail
« on: June 04, 2015, 03:03:32 PM »
GAA president Aogán Ó Fearghail has taken RTE's 'The Sunday Game' to task over their 'nasty' and 'abusive' analysis in recent weeks.

The Association's top official has hit out at Pat Spillane's comparison of the Donegal defence to the Taliban and Shane Curran's dismissive comments on London's participation in the Connacht SFC.

"I think when you're disrespectful to individuals, you go over the edge," he pointed out to The Irish Independent.

"I'm not saying RTÉ, I think anywhere that it happens. I dealt with it all my life as a teacher in the school playground. It's nasty. It's wrong.

"I have to say one aspect of that evening annoyed me because London were attacked in a disgraceful way as having no right to even be in it and nobody said anything.

"Fair enough, if you want to criticise but to be nasty and to be abusive and to use language to associate certain counties with the Taliban. That's not disrespectful, that's actually dangerous.

"The most dangerous force in the world today are the Taliban. To be associating anyone in GAA with that type of mentality, that's a type of mentality that builds and it becomes easy to say anything after that. I think that is dangerous and I don't accept it."

On the analysis of his native county Cavan's Ulster SFC defeat to Monaghan, Ó Fearghail added: "We saw loads of hexagons and triangles and honours maths-type diagrams but all it proved to me was that the man did honours maths. I saw very little real analysis.

"Nobody was saying anything good and then they were all very upset because another individual had been called ugly but what about Cavan football which has made huge advances?"

More of that please.

Under 12 or Under 10 level?
Cheers.

GAA Discussion / GAA Suspensions and Match bans
« on: April 17, 2015, 09:25:17 PM »
What is the rule in regard to a club player being sent off in the final championship game of 2014?
Does a suspension carry through to the 2015 Championship?
Thanks in advance
