General discussion / Re: It Must be Marching Season

In a past life, while working in Belfast City Council, I had the job of helping sort out bonfire beacons on the 11th night in some not-so-GAA-friendly places. If only they knew who was doing this work for them. Didn't agree with these "community groups" getting funding for these things and events, especially when it was just a front for what really goes on

Didn't see what Hartes black card was for,  was it harsh?

Seems like he was pinged for a trip. Similar to his previous black card against Donegal (open to correction on that).

To me Harte's technique is to plant his foot in front of the opposition player then follow with the shoulder charge. Nothing wrong with that unless it's misjudged (timing or speed or movement of attacker) and to the ref it looks like he has deliberately stuck his leg across attacking player and tripping him. Fully expect him to be playing next week.

Not sure how the linesman missed the challenge by McVeety. And a couple of yellows could have been blacks. The Cavan corner back ploughing straight into the Tyrone man on the sideline. Another ref could have deemed Cavanaghs challenge to be a black card.

Normally I would agree with your description of PH's tackling, however on this occasion he lead with the other leg, a clear trip. I thought initially it was a black card, the slow mo on Sunday Game confirmed it. HOWEVER, I think he will still get off the suspension as I think the Longford card will get suppressed.

He's a dentist from Belfast living in London playing in a band from Bristol.

That's him alright, like his dad

Watched The Cur set last night, the hit songs were brilliant but the other stuff was more for their hardcore fans.

also watched Bastille, thought they were brilliant. Have seen them live here, would definitely go back again

What the f**k is Donal Og Cusack doing comparing not passing to goalkeepers to British colonial rule??

can you put up his quote please?

My cousin's son plays lead guitar in The Idles, they played Glastonbury on Saturday i think it was. They're on the iPlayer, clean mad, say they are not punk but they as well be. Fair play to them though

Would like to see us line up like this (assuming Horan isn't going to change tack and suddenly start playing a sweeper or even a semi-sweeper the way McLoughlin used to play)

Clarke
Barrett Harrison EOD
Keegan Plunkett Durcan
AOS DOC
McLoughlin Loftus McDonagh
Moran Coen Carr/Regan

dropping Higgins is a big call?
id leave hime on but encourage hime to attack more . he seemed to be under order not to drive forward as much as normal in newry . which is probably his best asset

Well then don't play him corner back! Corner back's first job should be to stick to his man and not give him an inch.
not at all higgnis at corner back has bee a huge attacking asset for mayo , it very much his unique role not quiet replicated by any other corner back and Mayo not be able to do  a like for like replacement ,
playing forther up the fiel doe not suit him nearly as well as we daw from some of the experiments over the years .
Hes always had the pace to cover back as well, even up to roscommon this year

Did Philly McMahon not score 1-2 in an All-Ireland Final when marking Colm Cooper???? or does he not count?

Don't be surprised if this is moved to Sunday

Maybe we should move Dublin to Connacht for a few years. That should revive the Leinster championship for a while.
If the rest of Leinster had any sense they'd push for Dublin to be rotated among the provinces.

However, they'd be scared they'd lose ticket revenues so wouldn't even consider it for a second (even though attendances for other games would actually increase and a Kildare v Meath Leinster final would probably top what we'll get this weekend)

Ticket revenue? You mean the 10,000 fans you bring to neutral games? You still haven't played an away game in the Leinster championship since 2006 but only bring pathetic numbers around the province. Throwing a strop because the Leinster council had the temerity to make you leave your slums for the day. Even when you're back in your home ground you're not bothering to go anymore. We literally gave you millions but people like you still claim it's the Dubs doing everyone else a favour.

you really are a piece of trash

Jesus lads. Pet hate alert...

If we are measuring distance for Gaelic football in terms of moving the ball up, how far a free travels, etc. Its 14 yards or 13 metres.

McManus a pundit on the Sunday game today.

A sop to the “no coverage of Joe McDonagh” but yeah he has been relentlessly raising his profile for a few years now so fair play to him. Would say southerners couldn’t name another Antrim player

I actually thought Neil spoke very well, certainly one of the better punditry performances recently

Our under 20s looked very good at times yesterday too, drawing with Cavan and finishing their league campaign unbeaten after three. Obvious progress in this sector, with half a dozen players or more marking themselves out for senior activity in the near future. Well done to Hugh and backroom team, this set up has been impressive and the panel has responded. Question.....how many McRory cup medalists are on this panel from either St Marys Mfelt (2017) or St Ronan's (2018).

Totally agree with you, Antrim were by far the better team. And only for a crazy 5 minute spell straight after half time should've been out of sight
