Limerick - Patrickswell are in the final, awaiting the winners of the Adare versus Ballybrown semi final.
Clare - The County Final will see Ballyea playing Clonlara.

Galway - The County Final will feature Gort versus Saint Thomas'
Mayo - This appears to be a 4 team competition, round robin, and at the end the top two play a final. If so, it looks to be Toureen versus Ballyhaunis.

Roscommon - County Final will see Oran playing Four Roads
Leitrim - Very hard to find out! There is a semi final this weekend Carrick Hurling Club v Cluainin Iomaint, but I have no idea who awaits in the final.

Cluanin being Manorhamilton (or Glencar/Manor is it is in football). Gortletteragh and Ballinamore (Sean O'Heslin's in football) would be the other teams so presumably are the second semi final. SOH are in the intermediate football final on Sunday so it might be held back because of that.

No county for Crossmaglen this year.
Glen Rovers back in the Cork hurling final. Rockies and Barrs will have to buck up.

Would the winners be expected to do anything in Munster?

Cork clubs have been poor of late in Munster.

It seems Gortletteragh aren't hurling any more, which is news to me and a shame if so, so the setup then was that the loser of the Carrick-Manor tie played Ballinamore for the other final spot. The winners play Calry on the bank holiday Monday and the winners of that play the Galway junior champions in the Connacht final.

Connacht
Galway - Saint Thomas' are champions with a 1-11 to 0-10 win over Gort.
Mayo - Toureen versus Ballyhaunis.
Sligo - Calry/Saint Josephs beat Coolera/Strandhill in the Final.

*No Connacht Senior Hurling Championship*

I presume the senior winners in Roscommon, Mayo, etc, etc go into an Intermediate or junior championship in Connacht, no?

I thought the Ballyea and Clonlara game was slow enough going up until the Ballyea goal when it then kicked into life.

The hurling, balance and movement of Tony Kelly is something to behold, an absolute joy to watch.
Clonlara will need to get the better of the bigger Ballyea team especially the No10, Deasy who was catching good ball all day. The No 6 went onto him and that curtailed him slightly, but they never got Ballyea out of reach and when the goal went in Ballyea looked like stealing it.
Good to see Damien Power at the helm after Clonlara had outside managers for a few years now and have went with one of their own in charge, nice lad who was up at our place with their U14's a few year back.

The fact they had to push Padraic Maher (who most certainly doesn't lack guts) up the field late on told it's own tale

They must have got the holy relic of Clonrickard out to Lar for extra time as he was in a bad way going off at the end of normal time ;-0  . His contribution was his usual tidy flicks and passes, but you just think he's more to give if he'd show more drive.

Fair play to Ballyea, they have a few hurlers with the abilities Clare seniors lack, big strong ball winners in Brennan and Deasy, think they may also be footballers also, but the hurlers should be trying to get them onboard. Jack Brown and Flanaghan should also be joining them.

As for Thurles, for the better part of the game, were playing some good hurling, failed to convert two very good goal chances in the first half, hit some poor wides, but were still value for the 6 or 7 point lead they had, then they let Ballyea pick off points to reduce the deficit to three and then somehow big Brenna got possession 50 yards out, showed Paudie Maher a clean pair of heels, but the Sars defence opened up like the red sea and he was untouched as he rifled his shot into the net. Great goal, but very poor defending.

Ballyea will fancy their chances against Glen Rovers in two weeks.

Tony Kelly is something else, an effortless hurler is the biggest compliment I can pay to him. Touch, pace, balance, vision all on the button. He isn't the biggest, but with those types of attributes he doesn't need to be. Once again a joy to behold.

Flannagan and Browne are already members of the Clare squad. Deasey is definatlely one for a call up and exactly what Clare need in their half forwards. Breannan scored a great goal but hes a better footballer all round. The Clare management could learnt a lot from this outfits resolve and never say die attitude.

Brennan may be a better footballer, but he'd offer the hurlers something that currently only John Conlan has in his locker. The ability to compete in the air.

On the old Clare hurlers DB I always thought they were too quick to dismiss someone who may be less than perfect in terms of hurling stickwork, yet Cody can look beyond the weaknesses in the likes of Walter Walsh or Aidan Fogarty and see the good that they do offer and work with them. Even Gerlock took Ollie Baker and worked with him to bring a big physicality to the midfield of Clare back in the day.

Two good games there, second one was bizarre to say the least, not as fluent in style of play but the turn around from O'Loughlin gaels was mighty, I thought OTB were going to blow them out of the water, first touch, support play, positioning, score taking and long range frees was top notch, one dodgy goal they lost confidence and the gaels ran out easy winners

The Clare team just had the bit between their teeth from the get go, intensity skill speed accuracy power and heart, hard to pick a mom to be honest, they will take some beating! Possible first Munster team to win the All Ireland for a while

Newtownshandrum being the last Cork team in the noughties and TBH I thought Toomevara had won one in the nineties, but they didn't and you have to go back to the mid eighties to Borrisilleigh and Kilruane before them.

That's staggering for two of the hurling elite counties.

Congrats to Cuala.
Should have won by a lot more

Were impressive alright, particularly in the forwards where the Gaels couldn't cope with the direct running, although the ref wasn't refereeing the tackle in the usual Brian Gavin style and awarding frees for the head high stuff.

O'Callaghan looks sharp enough and something the Dublin hurlers need, although did I hear the big ballers might also want him?

Think he was in the Football squad already this season & didn't return to the Cuala hurlers til after the replay. Think he only came on as a sub in the County Final.

Correct - and committed to the footballers fro 2017 already from what I hear

He had a couple of cameos with the footballers this year didn;t he? Looked impressive when he came on.

Mental last 10 minutes.

Mental last 10 minutes.

They were overly aggressive in the first half and forgot that they had to hurl along with it. Missed three/ four scoreable free which would have left the game a lot closer going in to the half time break.

Couple of silly decisions in the second half when they were on top stalled the come back of St Thomas's.

Still think the better team won out.

Aye but it goes back to my post, they just can't keep up the intensity and allow teams back at them, so a better team will capitalise on mistakes..

I wouldn’t be too harsh on Thurles Sars on this occasion as Ballygunner are a very good side and would have fancied their chances below in Waterford.  Na Piarsaigh will be thereabouts also in the coming weeks - very competitive club champ in Munster this year.

It was a good game in good weather at Walsh Park yesterday. Ballygunner have underachieved in Munster club as well with only one title back in 2001 I think despite numerous county final wins. I thought when Thurles Sarsfields drew level to bring it to extra time they'd have the advantage with the Gunners playing for 7 weeks in a row but the Waterford champions got the last two points to deservedly win. Padraic Maher got some great scores and was a great leader but him and Thurles keeper at fault for the goal from Mahony's free.

Yeah he was and he'd have no complaints there on that goal, but by christ hes the heart and soul of that time, amazing shift he puts in everytime i see him play for Sarsfields, must be annoying with that talented team not to get further in the All Ireland club!

The goal even at that early stage was he barrier that Ballygunner needed to stay in front and manage to get over the line in injury time, Lar for me plays too loose, waiting on the ball coming out of a ruck rather than winning dirty ball, his goal threat is gone when hes that far out the pitch..

the fielding in the Kilkenny game was outstanding! Buckley had an outstanding first half, went missing for a bit in the second half (think the Village lads played the ball anywhere he wasnt in the second half) but near the end was back on top!

That Dicksboro team is undefeated and had a serious amount of hunger on the ball, the Culla team has been going rightly to so should be a cracking game! Harder to call, though The Village didnt put up much of a fight for large parts of the game

Another good game in sunny but cold Walsh Park today with Ballygunner getting a narrow win for 2nd week in a row. Sixmilebridge playing with the breeze were much better in 1st half with 41 year old Niall Gilligan getting a few points. Ballygunner started 2nd half very well and had drawn level within first 10 minutes. 2 Jamie Shanahan points put the Clare side a point up with 3 minutes to go but a goal and point from Jj Hutchinson got the Gunners  over the line. Morey got a last minute goal for the Bridge but it was too late. Na Piarsaigh had a big win in other semi final and with their record in Munster club will be favourites for the final.

Cuala looking good yet again and boro didn't have the same goal opportunities that they did a week ago. Couldn't handle the swarm defence of Cuala.
Is that different Goughs playing for Dicksboro than the ones that used to play (or maybe still do) for Dublin?

They will all be doing good business this week!  Great managerial job by Louis Mulqueen in a very competitive senior championship.  I think that's the 5th different winner in the past 5 years?  Might be a while again before we have a team the likes of a Portumna or an Athenry dominating the local scene like times past - no bad thing really.

Cuala aren't reigning AI champions for nothing and will take some stopping.

Puts a bit of perspective on Slaughtneils game against them last year. Slaughtneil will give Na Piarsaigh their fill of it in February although Na Piarsaigh also being recent previous winners will be hotly tipped.

Is big John Lee playing for Liam Mellows?
One of the many fine hurlers who for whatever reason didn't get going at intercounty level.

Didn’t see his name in the report, I was actually looking out for it. The best hurling match I ever witnessed was the Fitzgibbon semi in 2010 between NUIG and LIT. Lee was outstanding at centre back for NUIG. They won by 1 point after extra time. Maybe he felt working as a doctor wasn’t compatible with playing intercounty.

Lee did his cruciate at the start of the year and missed pretty much all of the campaign I believe. Don't know if he will be available in the new year; Mellows will have their work cut out anyway against a formidable Cuala outfit.
Lee is a trained doctor and currently doing locum experience as a GP. Was a good prospect, particularly at underage, but ultimately couldn't really commit fully due to his studies.

I think they'll put it up to Cuala but you'd have to make Cuala favourites. Even getting this far is massive for Mellows.

6 different winners in the last 8 years in the Galway hurling championship now. For whatever reason Galway seem to perform better when there is no dominant club side in the county. It was the same in the 1980's when there was almost a different county champion year after year.

I think that's probably a good state of affairs for a county team. It means more clubs are performing at a higher level, which means more players are playing well across the county. That can only be healthy for a county side.

The standard is very even in Galway at the moment. Of the 4 semi-finalists, Aidan Harte was the only player off the county team with a couple of other panellists. The top 10 or 12 teams seem to be much of a muchness and it is a very healthy state of affairs. I don't think Mellowes will get close to Cuala if the conditions are decent.

There's probably about 15 or 16 clubs that have at least one and some have two intercounty standard players but no club has four or five alone like say Portumna would have had in the recent past.

Probably means no Galway club is going to threaten winning a club All-Ireland at the moment but there is a big pile of good clubs in the championship albeit no great club side right now.

If that means the county team can win a few more all irelands I would be happy to sacrifice the club all Irelands. Athenry gave us some great days out but they were nothing like the buzz  of this September.

2 football counties that have very dominant clubs are Armagh (Cross) and Down (Kilcoo) and neither county is up to much.

Yeah nothing wrong with spreading round the titles, how would they fair against the Dublin champions?

Cuala aren't reigning AI champions for nothing and will take some stopping.

Puts a bit of perspective on Slaughtneils game against them last year. Slaughtneil will give Na Piarsaigh their fill of it in February although Na Piarsaigh also being recent previous winners will be hotly tipped.

Is big John Lee playing for Liam Mellows?
One of the many fine hurlers who for whatever reason didn't get going at intercounty level.
Mellows have 8 titles now which puts them third behind Castlegar on 17 and Ardrahan on 11.
Sînce Mellows last win in 1970 a lot of "newbie" clubs have been racking up titles but 8 is still a lot to build up to. You need more than one exceptional team.

Ballyragget 0-8 Tooreen 0-2. It took Tooreen 20 mins to score looking like a bridge too far for them so far.

Big result, they've been going hard for the past few years, a good winter break and re charge the batteries needed.. they have too much quality to not make it back

Thurles are a crock of shit. I've given up backing them as they have no heart or just lack a mentality that champions bring to big games... It seemed winning Tipp championships was easy and now they can't do that anymore

You clearly don’t have a clue

Thurles were going for 5 in a row this year

Kilruane has them beaten in the quarterfinals and they dug it out

Loughmore had them beaten in the mid final and they dug it out twice

Their forwards are too light and knacky for the winter hurling of the Munster club

Winning the Tipp championship ain’t easy any year given the depth and spread of senior clubs, throw in the 4 divisional championship of which 3 are hotly contested and you have a fair slog to a county title, never mind this year when it has been ultra competitive

I’d wager your knowledge of the Tipp championship is fairly limited.

How many games have you been to?

Here’s what I know, Thurles have under performed with a gifted set of hurlers at the big stage for the previous 5 odd years, they have choked when Munster titles came their way and teams with lesser pedigree have bettered them..

I’ve only seen them when TG4 put them on and over the years they have been on often enough.. but if you can’t see there is something wrong with them I doubt your knowledge of Tipp club hurling

Interesting tidbit from the Tipperary County Final on Sunday. John O'Keefe captained Clonoulty Rossmore, and received the Dan Breen Cup. In the war of Independence, John's home place was a safe house for republicans on the run, and Dan Breen himself actually stayed there. Nice to bring the cup home to the same place the man himself once stayed.

Ballyea and Ballygunner was some battle yesterday taking a second period of extra time to separate them. Both out on their feet at the end like two punch drunk heavyweights.

Ballygunner in fairness look to have the better all round team but Ballyea with Jack Brown, Niall Deasy and Tony Kelly are a serious outfit too.

Na Piarsaigh gave the Tipp champions a right going over and will be favourites but if Ballygunner can get a dry sod they might be quick enough and sharp enough to make a game of it.

Coolderry and MLR was a hard hitting game, no love lost their by the looks of it. I presume MLR aren't well liked in Leinster club circles due to their abrasive style.
We'd them and St Rynaghs up at our tournament last year and they weren't missing each other either.

Did Coolderry not lose a few players to ref cards? One early in the second half and didn’t make that count

A few MLR players got yellow cards in first 20 mins for very little when Coolderry were dishing it out all over the park
#6 for coolderry should have been a straight red

Na piarsagh will be too strong for them, be another Munster title for them this year and chasing for the big one again.. Ballyboden struggle to get past Clonkill, I'd have expected them to be better but who knows? they face Coolderry next who'll be a harder prospect..

Keeper made a boob for one of the B/Gunner goals unless it came off the defenders hand, but didn't look like it.

Better team won with Wayne Hutchinson clearing up a huge amount of ball in the Gunners defence. NaPairsigh lads looked to be carrying a bit more timber, but maybe that's just the jerseys...

Ref is correct in calling a lot of the holding that was going on, that's not tackling and its time referees grew a set and called it.

Ballyhale look to be a force again, dispatched ballyboden without getting out of second gear.. they’ll play the Gunners be a tighter game but should come through.

St Thomas will expect to beat Cushendall but that game will be a lot tighter than what people think

I think you are right on the first one( shootout between omahoney and reid).  Cushendall do not have the forwards to trouble st thomas's though. Not convinced it will be close - particularly if carson missing.

Their defence though is very strong, on a heavy pitch in February (Parnell) it will reduce St Thomas’s speed on the ball to some extent.. if they could keep McManus up front he’d be a huge problem for their defenders
