Tyrones Own, I have to admit that you are right about Bomber Obomber.

He has turned out to be a complete failure, and has bowed to big business and took the soup.

His inaction in the Gulf Oil spill crisis is a testament to his failure as US president.

End blockade of Gaza, EU tells Israel

The European Union has called on Israel to immediately end the three-year blockade of Gaza and to allow the Freedom Flotilla to enter the enclave.

"The continued policy of closure is unacceptable and politically counterproductive," EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said in a statement on Friday.

"We would like to reiterate the EU's call for an immediate, sustained and unconditional opening of crossings for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and persons to and from Gaza," she added.

The Freedom Flotilla, a multinational relief mission heading for the Gaza Strip, consists of nine vessels from Turkey, Ireland, Britain, and Greece that are currently off the coast of Cyprus.

The mission was organized by the Free Gaza Movement.

Ashton made the remarks after Israel threatened to divert the flotilla to its southern port of Ashdod and to detain the activists onboard, AFP reported.

Israel has said it will not allow the ships to reach the Gaza Strip and has called the attempt to break the blockade a "cheap political stunt."

On Thursday, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky also urged Israel to "act with a sense of care" in dealing with the pro-Palestinian activists who are attempting to break the blockade of Gaza.

The Freedom Flotilla is carrying about 10,000 tons of supplies to the 1.5 million people of Gaza, who have endured many hardships during the three-year blockade.

U.S. President Bomber O' Bomber opposes PEACE in the Middle East............................

"We strongly oppose efforts to single out Israel, and will oppose actions that jeopardize Israel's national security," Obama said, adding that "the greatest threat to proliferation in the Middle East, and to the NPT, is Iran's failure to live up to its NPT obligations."

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference adopted Friday a declaration upholding principles of disarmament and calling for an international conference in 2012 with the aim to establish a nuclear-weapon-free Middle East.

The 189 NPT parties also decided to address North Korea in the final declaration, calling on that country to return to negotiations to settle the dispute over its nuclear activities.
The 28-page declaration was adopted by consensus, closing a month of debate that began on May 3. It contains a 22-point action plan.

U.S. National Security Adviser General James L. Jones also deplored the decision to single out Israel, calling the move "gratuitous".

"The failure of the resolution to mention Iran, a nation in longstanding violation of the NPT and UN Security Council Resolutions which poses the greatest threat of nuclear proliferation in the region and to the integrity of the NPT, is also deplorable," Jones said.

Under the NPT's action plan, the five recognized nuclear-weapon states - the United States, Russia, Britain, France and China - commit to speed up arms reductions, take other steps to diminish the importance of atomic weapons, and report back on progress by 2014.

The NPT is intended to stop the spread of atomic weapons, though it allowed the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia to keep their arsenals while calling on them to negotiate on disarmament.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praised the adoption of the declaration and its plan of action.

"A strong spirit of compromise and cooperation has delivered a significant agreement to build a safer and more secure world," Ban said in a statement.

The action plan "lays the solid foundation to further strengthen the treaty and address the challenges ahead," Ban said. He welcomed the nuclear-weapon-states to commit themselves to actions to eliminate nuclear weapons.

Puckoon, feel free to put forward a balanced view then instead of attacking either myself or Hedley.
That has been the problem on this board regarding the Middle East. Far too often, people are
playing the man, and not the ball.

Puckoon, you will find it hard to put acroos a fair and balanced view on US foreign policy in the
Middle East considering the the role the US is playing out there right now.

As I type this, 750 people, including 11 Irish people are in serious danger from Israel/US weapons
as they attempt to sail into Gaza.

Israhell have stated that they will stop these people at all costs, and that they will use force
if necessary.

This stand off is to take place in the next 12/24 hours.

Why will Israhell attack them? Because they are bringing vital aid to a region that has been destroyed over 62 years by US weapons and support for a racist apartheid regime that is on it's last legs.

Only yesterday, 189 countries voted in favour of forcing Israhell to declare their Nuclear weapons
and sign the NPT.  The US were dragged kicking and screaming to the table to support it.

To compound the bad hair day for Israhell, the EU came out yesterday and stated that Israhell must end the siege immediatley and allow the ships into Gaza. No doubt Uncle Sam will sit back and say nothing as it signs another daily cheque for $7 million to go to the regime to buy weapons to attack these ships and passengers.

If one person is injured by US/Israhell weapons, then feel free to come in with a bit of balance whenever I start posting about it.........

Oh, and if you don't think Israhell  is capapable of attacking them, then you should read about the USS Liberty, the US ship Israhell attacked in 1967 killing many US service men. Of course, Uncle Sam played a major role in that cover up........

However, if we were to believe the western media, it is Iran that is a threat, while all the time
it is Israhell/US that is the biggest threat to peace in the middle east.

Its pretty redundant to be posting those articles considering the sources are mostly middle eastern news papers.

It'd be like posting every article from an phoblact to highlight the problems with British presence in Ireland.

Everyone is aware of your opinion Hedley.

Thats right Puckoon. What would Middle Eastern Newspapers know about events in the Middle East?

We should all stick to Fox News for the real truth in the Middle East.

Folks, click on the following link for all the latest news on the flotilla.
All the boats have now set sail, and are in international waters.

Israhell have issued serious threats to everyone involved, and they have stated that
they will stop this flotilla from entering Gaza by any means possible.

They have set up a temporary prison, and it is not looking good.
They are due to reach Gaza tomorrow evening, and trouble is looming on the high seas.

Turkey have stated that they will respond immediatly to any acts of aggression on their
citizens and boats. The only country so far to stand up for their citizens.

Folks, at 3pm today, the ships will depart Turkey for Gaza. In 48 hours time, Saturday afternoon,  they will be inside Gazan waters.
Israhell has vowed to stop them by force if necessary, and Turkey have threatened to respond
if one of their boats is attacked.

Israhell have prepared a jail to hold everyone before deporting them.

This has the potential to turn very ugly, and a major international crisis is looming.

I am in constant contact with those on board, and will be doing media work from this side.

I will keep you all posted on any news, as it happens.

Chomsky weighs in on Middle East's recurring 'current crisis:

BEIRUT: Look back at the titles of Noam Chomsky's lectures over the years and you will notice a familiar title: "The current crisis in the Middle East." The reason for this, Chomsky says, is because often he is asked to give for titles for speaking engagements years in advance, and it is a title that is always relevant.

On a visit to Beirut as part of a regional tour, the world-renowned linguist, scholar and political analyst talks to The Daily Star about the most recent crisis facing the region, and how the United States and Israel are alone in blocking a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

"It's a joke of course, but it does work," he laughs, in reference to his lecture titles. The current and most pressing crisis in the region right now, according to Chomsky, is Iran, "and the US is working very hard to ensure that there is a crisis" he says.

"It was it was quite interesting to see how they reacted to the Iranian nuclear agreement brokered by Turkey and Brazil. They were terrified because someone else was intervening; they displaced the US as the primary agent in the region."

The agreement to which Chomsky refers calls for Tehran to ship around half its stock of low-enriched uranium to Turkey and months later receive a supply of more highly enriched uranium suitable for research and medical use. The problem was not the agreement itself, Chomsky argues, but that the US was excluded.

Chomsky proposes that the United States is actively encouraging a crisis with Iran with the goal of quelling its growing influence in the region. "The real winner in the Iraq war was Iran. The US destroyed Iran's main enemy in Iraq and left it the major regional power."

The United States' primary concern over the Iranian nuclear program, he continues, is over its deterrence capability. "No one in their right mind thinks Iran would use a nuclear weapon, it would be suicide, but to have it would deter the United States from aggression," he says, adding that the resolution being pursued by the US would be unlikely to have an effect on Iranian nuclear capabilities.

As part of his tour of the region, Chomsky had planned to speak at Bir Zeit University near the West Bank city of Ramallah, but was denied entry to the West Bank at the Israeli-controlled crossing from Jordan. Israel's Interior Ministry insisted the incident was a "misunderstanding" and said the 81-year-old professor had not been blacklisted, while a senior government source described the situation as "a total cockup."

"It was a cowardly excuse on the part of Israel" says Chomsky, "I heard a series of excuses and they finally hit on the one that I expected, in fact the person they blamed it on was the official on the border. But this was false; he was in constant contact with the Ministry of Interior during the whole interrogation, relaying queries and instructions."

On proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinians recently re-launched by US envoy George Mitchell, Chomsky says he has little hope.

"The fact of the matter is that it is the wrong people negotiating, it should be the United States and the world. Because what in fact has been happening for 34 years, and is happening now, is that there is an overwhelming international consensus on the general terms of a diplomatic resolution and the US is blocking it. On the ground Israel is blocking it, but Israel can't do anything without US authorization, so it is in fact the US who is blocking it."

This trip will be Chomsky's second visit to the country, the first being just weeks before the Israeli attack in 2006. "Unfortunately it has changed substantially," he said of the differences between now and then. Chomsky used part of his time in Lebanon to visit villages in the south that were devastated during the Israeli attack and met with Hizbullah official Nabil Qaouq.

On the possibility of another Israeli attack on Lebanon, Chomsky says Israel "would have to be crazy to do so."

"They are kind of irrational at this point and hard to predict. If they do it, it would be part of an attack on Iran. If they are planning to attack Iran they would have to simultaneously attack Lebanon, just to get rid of the deterrent, and they wouldn't do it in advance because they would lose the element of surprise."
