Working from home certainly requires a discipline that was not expected.

I've heard of a few working from who dress as if going to the office and actually get in the car and drive around for a few minutes before returning home and are thereby better prepared mentally for the day's work!!!  I haven't found that necessary yet, but sometimes it is hard to get into the "work" frame of mind immediately after leaving the kitchen. 

All in all though, I'd take home over office, but there are pitfalls...including spending too much time on work projects in a day.

Twats. I can picture the LinkedIn posts now.

Working from home requires discipline and routine is important, but sort of shite is absolute nonsense.

This is certainly taking it to another level. However I would agree with the 'dressing for work' part. It definitely affects your approach to the day.

Cumann na nGaedheal (as spelt at the time) broke away from SF to set up the new State. They joined others to form FG in the 1930s.
FF broke away from SF 1926 or 27 so they could take their seats in the Free State Dáil.
The Provos always claimed they were the true continuation of the 1919 to 21 men and their Army Council was the only legitimate successor to the 2nd Dáil.
As for deflection.... funny how the article about Varadkar appeared something like 2 years after the event......
Around the same time as SF were having a bit of Internal bother 😃

Heather Humphreys or the other 91 may be pathetic but they never abducted a young lad who wouldn't lick some warlord's boots, never took him off to some secret location, never put a bullet in his head, never buried him in unconsecrated ground without access to priest, never left his family for 45 years not finding their loved ones remains.
They never murdered Messrs Oliver, Stack or Quinn.

Anybody that disagrees with unionist / loyalist / FF / FG ramblings is normally called a "Shinnerbot". Its an embarrassing term, and ridiculously overused. But when all else fails, and you dont have a coherent argument, throw the word out there. It seems to negate everything else.

That article in itself in also highly embarrassing.

Why did I have a feeling you would prefer their explanations? 

I suppose my point is, that it is very hard to defend anything SF related, even when in the right, or even just in an opinionated way in a debate, without 'Shinnerbot' being thrown out. Its the easy go-to, with many jumping on the bandwagon.

Maybe I'm just more annoyed with these stupid modern terms that are thrown about everywhere nowadays, 'bot', 'troll' and all the rest.

You cannot challenge or disagree these days without being labelled as such. Healthy debate can easily descend into being summed up as 'Shinnerbot'. Argument over.

I think it's society these days. See brexiteers, anti vaxxers, libtards etc etc. It's not specific to those "causes" but shinner bot is akin to them. Rather than having a reasoned debate it will just be thrown in to kill an argument. I notice it's coming in to scottish nationalism a bit too.

I think that's exactly it. And granted I am older and grumpier than ever, but it's a very frustrating trend. As you said it kills an argument. Anything said thereafter in defence of SF in any way is 'proving their point'. Lose-lose situation really when the term is thrown out there.

Hi folks, couple of questions. Currently looking at either buying or building in the not too distant future (26 counties)

1) Which would people recommend we do in the own experience? Obviously a personal choice but building my own home was never an absolute must-do for me, so easy going on that.
2) Can't seem to find much info online, does anyone know current approximate rates psm/psf to build? (We have a site)
3) Currently own a small property in the north. Would this help or hinder me here?

Any other basic do's and dont's would be welcome. Fairly green on it!

Been part of the board now about 12/13 years. Have had a couple of different usernames, but very rarely post anymore. Always keep an eye on it and particularly this thread.

Not actually sure why I'm posting but sharing seems to help, and I suppose it's good to know if others have felt this way and how and if it has improved.

For about the last 4 years I could not honestly say I was happy. I've had the craic and not been down but just never happy. It's as if I'm just waiting for everything in life just to click into place all at once. And I know life's not like that. There are and will be challenges every single day and week, that's how it is.

But for the last 12 months or so I've been increasingly worse. I have my own small business which should run smoothly, but I do my best to hamper that. Any stress or problems from work have 100% been from my own actions. I would stay off drink, or maybe have a couple here and there, but every 6 weeks or so I'll take out and go on it for 3 or 4 days. Leading to missing work, making excuses to clients and putting myself under serious pressure.

Lately I've been having suicidal thoughts, though I know deep down it's not something I would ever do, even for the simple fact that I could not bear to do that to my family. This will sound like a complete contradiction but I know I have a good life. I have my own business, I'm relatively young and I live in a great place. Yet even though I've just written that I can't convince myself of it. I've lay in bed for days with anxiety. Afraid to leave the house. Knowing that getting a days work over me would put me back on track but just being unable to do it. The smallest of jobs or tasks can make me extremely anxious.

After confiding in a couple of close friends who both gave me the same advice I finally went to see my doctor. He was fantastic with the whole thing. I am on low dosage medication at the moment (only a few days in) and he is putting a plan in place for me. I got the same advice almost a year ago and agreed with it, but once I started to feel 'normal' again I just convinced myself I was overreacting and feeling sorry for myself. But if it's a continuing cycle (which it is) thens it's not normal, and it needs dealt with in the proper manner.

I'm a logical person and that's what scares me the most about this. None of it is rational or logical, which really frustrates me. Sometimes it does just feel like I'm feeling sorry for myself. The best metaphor I could think of is that I'm looking at €100 on a table wishing it was €1m, whereas I need to be looking at what that €100 could buy. I'm hoping over the next few weeks and months with the plan that I'll be happy and satisfied with my €100.

I'm not even sure why I've posted this but it's good to get words down and get any advice possible, particularly seeing how many people here actually have first hand experience.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated and apologies if this seems like attention seeking or anybody feels they have to reply. Just another individual story I suppose.
