So I was chatting to Stevie this morning.

Apparently the Laois man is obsessed with attacking football, and him and Poacher have had a run-in about this before.

The Laois fella spent the whole game winding people up by shouting things like “get it into the forwards”, “take your man on” and “have a go”.

Which was okay when Down were winning, as our crowd could laugh away at him. But when Laois began to get on top, the air began to change too.

Poacher says he tried to warn him that things could get ugly: “you’re in the the wrong province for that kind of talk, son”, and “look, there’s children here, they don’t need to hear words like that”.

But on and on the Laois man went. Louder and louder, “Don’t be afraid to take a pop”, “protecting the lead is a dangerous game lads; stay on the front foot”.

Then he threw out the ultimate insult to everyone around him “for God’s sake Donie, don’t be chasing back, defending is something for the backs to do. You take a breather”.

At this point Steven was rightly worried a riot could ensue. Being a friend to any man in trouble, he went into full distraction mode, throwing water bottles around and doing that “everyone look at me” raindance thing he does.

It was this little charade that created a short window for the Laois man to run for safety.

Steven willingly showed me the thank you texts he got from across Laois this morning. The lad involved probably won’t be coming north again for a while. He forgets himself and just can’t rein it in, and puts the whole county in jeopardy. Awful shame as apparently he’s a really nice fella, apart from his mucked up desire for attacking football.

wobbler you should get a gold star for that post!  ;D ;D ;D

It's great watching United again, OGS needs to work on the defence as I think good teams will take the chances that Cardiff and Huddersfield missed, no idea how it's all gonna end, but it's gonna be exciting ride.

Supposed to have safety device fitted that will not let them fly near airports.  malicious or MOD?

I believe they can be fitted with that technology, but are not. So some ballbags thinks it's funny, 5 years if found, bet a few passengers would like to meet him or her

Obviously a few lads taking the piss on here with votes for the last 3 managers. Between big Ron and the Doc for me. Went for Atkinson. He was a little unlucky in 1985/86 with Robbo's dislocated shoulder and Hughes being unsetlled by the transfer to Barcelona. That was a really good team.

They used to beat Liverpool regularly. Talented midfield and attack. And Paul McGrath.

I remember them coming close in the UEFA Cup, then a very serious competition, one year.

And didn't they start one season with ten wins or something, until Liverpool drew at Old Trafford - might have been the year Liverpool did the double, 85-86? I think the wheels came off, big time, that season and Atkinson never recovered.

I think it was the 1983/84 Cup Winners Cup you're thinking of. Knocked out Maradona's Barcelona in the quarter final on a glorious night in Old Trafford with a 3-0 win to overturn a 0-2 first leg deficit. Narrowly lost out to Juventus who I think had Platini, Boniek and Rossi in the subsequent semi final.

It was 1985/86 that they had 10 wins from 10 to start the season, a draw with Luton breaking the run. Just chekced there and it was 13 wins out of 15 to start the season. Lost 6 gamers out of 10 from December 21st to March 15th and were down to 3rd. Robson's injury and Hughes going totally out of form after being sold to Barcelona (was announced near the end of the season but had been agreed over Christmas from memory) major reasons for the drop off. Big Ron was gone in November.

I was at that game, was at the Arsenal match that weekend, think won 3-0 or so.
