General discussion / Electric garage doors
« on: February 19, 2020, 03:48:53 PM »
First world problem and asking for a friend ...

How would one open an electric roller garage door from the outside when the only remote control for it has been lost?

Can’t even find the supplier details as they’re written on the box inside the garage.

Any advice that doesn’t involve a crowbar would be appreciated.

GAA Discussion / Croke Park Bag Policy
« on: August 29, 2019, 12:51:33 AM »
I know Croke Park has a policy regarding bringing a bag into the stadium.  How strictly is it enforced and do you think there’d be any issues with bringing a Cúl Camp sized backpack into the stadium?

The young fella is attending Sunday’s final with me, and we plan on having a bag to carry jackets (if they’re not needed), a few snacks etc.  Thanks in advance.

General discussion / Mobile Roaming Charges
« on: June 25, 2016, 12:39:52 PM »
Presently on holiday in Spain, using mobile as normal as at home due to new roaming caps since April 30th.  According to these new charges, cost for data can be no more that 0.05 per Mb more than your home package.  However, I'm still getting periodic texts from Vodafone saying that I've ran up another £5 roaming charge, now at a total of £30.  Not doing any excessive surfing, no videos, just usual stuff as I would at home.

Any ideas why Vodafone are still applying excessive roaming charges despite the newer rates?  Thanks in advance.

General discussion / Mary Boyle Case
« on: May 15, 2016, 11:38:25 PM »
A new documentary is due to air later this month relating to the investigation into missing 6 year old, Mary Boyle, who went missing during a visit to her Grandparents at Cashelard, near Ballyshannon almost 40 years ago.  The trailer for it is fascinating, a lot of people seem certain they know who is responsible ...

It looks like Vicar Street on December 30th will be the last show for The Dubliners ... end of an era in many ways, how Ireland has changed since they first started off in 1962!

Luke Kelly, Ciaran Bourke, Ronnie Drew, Barney McKenna, John Sheahan (1963) ... in later years, Sean Cannon, Jim McCann, Eamonn Campbell, Paddy Reilly, Patsy Watchorn ...

General discussion / M50 eFlow Toll
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:54:12 AM »
Apparently, and I got this as second hand information, just over 20,000 northern reg cars are presently being sought for not paying the eFlow toll on the M50.

Has anyone ever been contacted by them or a debt colletion agency?  Or is this scare mongering in an attempt to get northerners to pay up?

I am of course a fully paid up member.

General discussion / Dublin 'Hotel' of the Thousand Welcomes....NOT!
« on: September 23, 2010, 12:22:38 AM »
Well I stayed in a decent Dublin city centre hotel over the All Ireland weekend just past....the Trinity Capital on Pearse Street.  Nice hotel and well located.

Firstly, on arriving on Saturday, we went into the hotel bar for some lunch around 2PM.  We had a 6 month old baby sleeping in the pram, along with us.

I thought the waitress was coming over to take our food order, until she proceeded to tell me, in broken English, that children were not permitted in the bar at anytime.  This was news to me, as I had thought children were permitted up until a certain time if food was being served.  Now we're talking a 6 month old baby here, sleeping in a pram, doing no one any harm.  But we had to leave the hotel bar, which was empty by the way, and go elsewhere for something to eat.  So that didnt go down too well with the 8 of us who were staying.

Then to finish off the weekend, I watched in horror as the hotel manager refused to switch the bar TV over from American NFL to watch the Sunday Game at 9.30 on Sunday night!  The bar was full of Down and Cork people who were resident in the hotel, and two Americans who were not resident but had arranged to call in to see the NFL game!

Talk about ructions, there was a mass exodus from the hotel bar, as people headed to another pub to see the Sunday Game.  I, like many of those who were there, won't be staying at the Trinity Capital again.

So much for welcoming your guests....feckin joke!
