Midfield is championship level along with Pogba who doesn't want to be there. Biggest mistake was selling Herrera who was providing leadership in the middle of the park and not replacing him. Fred signed for 50 million has become the latest Brazillian flop alongsie Anderson and Kleberson.

It's worse than that. At least if they'd sold him they could've gotten a bit of money out of it. They let his contract run down and he walked away for nothing. But Woodward et al. still made sure to find the time and money to offer contact extensions to Young, Smalling and Jones in the last 12 months. Nothing the club has done in the last five years makes any footballing sense. There is no vision for the future beyond sourcing the next noodle or mattress partner. It's a broken football club.

This is the only squad that really matters to those that run the show:

Also I would love to see a list of united players wages, it seems every player is on silly wages including young players like Rashford and poor players like Phil Jones something that did not happen under Ferguson era, it seems to be a really bad run club on the football side of things that is for sure.

I would have thought it was ideal, 2 big games then a week off then another 2 big games. Realistically the first 2 are free darts as we will be massive underdogs in both games, then a 2 week run up to the crunch tie against Dublin.

I would imagine the Laois lads will be chomping at the bit for these type of games given how well they performed last season.

Wait, newsflash. The Laois senior football managers role is NOT the most attractive role in the country? I am shocked. It looks like Johns ultimate role would be to be manager of Kerry senior footballers and good luck to him.

Plenty of journey men have come to Laois taken a few coins of silver and done sod all, he took the role and brought the team back to Div 2, in other word he did a good job. Other people noticed this, not just the people on this message board and now he has other offers.

The guy is from Kerry so his long term plan may be to move back one day or should we call him names if he does this? I would imagine Quirkes long term goal would be to manage Kerry seniors also, if he wants a shot at it he would have to also improve Laois, would you not be willing to accept this? or would you rather we appoint Luke Dempsey

sean is a fantastic talent  but unfortunately he is physically not strong enough for top level football when alot of emphasis is now on strength and conditioning, hence i think he is not the man for laois

i know he scored 1-4, the goal was fortunate from a miss kick, fair play to sean he reacted well and all 4 points were from frees.

This is nonsense, S&C training is the easy side of things. Getting skills is not, if you have a skilfull player and physically strong player you can try and train a player to bulk up over a 5 month period. If you want to get a strong player to get the skills needed to compete it could take years.

If we look around and see players like Jamie Clarke, Rian O'Neill, Cillian O Connor, Mark Collins to name a few who are not exactly body builders and yet all can perform at the highest level.

I see the draw was made for Leinster championship, I presume from the graphic that if Laois beat the winners of Louth v Longford they would face Meath/Wexford/Wicklow in semis? But it is not clear.

What actually happened?

They should try and make it more attractive, free family tickets to all games in Laois and O'Moore Park. Refs who get county finals get All Ireland final tickets or somethings like that to incentivise the role. People only ref nowadays to help keep to thing going and a bit of self pride as the money is hardly outstanding and the abuse is at times disgraceful.

A player can have a bad game and basically gets an arm around the shoulder or a pat on the back, a ref has a bad game and a mob are after him with pitch forks.

Has Quirke been ratified yet? Hope he gets to watch the games and all 4 teams do themselves justice.

I have just seen that twitter post showing Phil Jones mouthing 'sacked in the morning'. What a clown, he should be turfed out asap. Clowns like him who are average players on bloated contracts is one of the main reasons united are where they are.

United are at the beginning of a major rebuilding job which will take a good couple of years and no matter who is in change they need time as results are not going to change over night. Ole in fairness has brought in 3 good signings who have improved the side so its a good first step, next he needs a creative midfielder and centre forward, then its building up the squad which is extremely light currently.

Will he get the time he needs, they have given him the time via his contract but his lack of experience may count against him. With Spurs having a slow start it would not be a surprise to see Poch move on. To me he seems the ideal manager for this rebuilding job.

It was all about the result, Ireland's real world cup begins in the next round now bar a disaster against Japan. The reality is that Ireland hammered Scotland, they may not be a side on the level of a South Africa but they are no mugs. Ireland in works cups have a poor record of performing against teams when they are favourites also so it's a cracking result in my book.

Next up we have Japan, we get through that and we can start resting our stars so we are 100% ready for South Africa. We manage to win that and we are in a great place.

Clubs like Courtwood or Emo may suit as they are basically football only clubs, they are senior teams though. Courtwood have a junior C side also.
