GAA Discussion / Re: Tyrone V Monaghan AIQF 2015

Just looking at bookies prices on player points on tyrone side and wondering who takes right footed frees for tyrone nowadays. Is it mcalliskey? Haven't seen sean cavanagh take any in a while but haven't been watching tyrone games that closely. Bookies have mc curry at 5/6 to score less than 4.5 points and another bet that catches my eye is Conor mc manus to out score mc curry at 4/6.

Whilst mc curry will be high on confidence after last weeks performance in croker  he was afforded an amount of space against a poor sligo defence and will face a different animal in monaghan defence.

Also where do you expect peter Harte to line out? Seems to be swooping between halfback and half forward line

Any word if team has been picked to play against uuj tonight. They should be tough opposition with their array of county stars and will be looking to bounce back from last week's loss to monaghan

Antrim / Re: ANTRIM HURLING

Any idea of team that will line out against DIT in first outing of the year for the hurlers? Will Kevin Ryan have a look at a lot of the newer lads. Looks a good opportunity to start year off with a win at home and final of this competition being played in croke park this year so it's a nice reward for players in what is a Mickey Mouse competition

GAA Discussion / Re: Bets for the Weekend

Word of warning on Offaly........They have played two challenges since the roscommon game and won both of them. Defeated a strong laois 15 last weekend(11 starters from team that beat donegal) by 6 points and beat wicklow the week prior to that 18 points to 13. Expect a better showing from them atleast but whether that is enough to beat Antrim is another question. Im guessing Niall Mc Namee is back judging on those results

Must say its disgraceful watching that video just now. Derrytresk should be thrown out of the competition for the scandalous behaviour of their subs and a few of their players. From looking at the video footage released i feel that derrytresk are completely to blame for this happening. Why did 10-15 of their subs feel the need to jump the fence because of an altercation between a player and an official. Its not as if their club official was being attacked by 2/3 players in Maroon jerseys. Looking at the clip and there is only 5 seconds between when first attempted strike is made and when all the derrytresk subs are over the hoarding. Most of these are cowards who throw a sly dig when theres a group of them attacking a few of their opponents.

Croke park need to throw the book at these sides and throw them out of the competition and put a marker down to the rest of the country that they wont tolorate this no more. Another incident like this doesnt portray a great image of Tyrone football after a number of their clubs making the headlines for all the wrong reasons

Tyrone have named side this evening for tomorrows clash with Fermanagh :

            1. P McConnell
2. A McCrory 3. C Clarke 4. PJ Quinn
5. C McCarron 6. P Harte 7. Justy McMahon
     8. N McKenna 9. C Cavanagh
10. C Gervin 11. K Coney 12. P McNiece
13. O Mulligan 14. Mattie Donnelly 15. Ronan O'Neill

Would give fermanagh a great chance from looking at the above team. Much weaker  and inexperienced than team that played wednesday night.

Any word on Derry team? Will Paddy Bradley feature or was he togged wednesday night against donegal

GAA Discussion / Re: Niall McNamee's Gambling Problem

Fair play to him for coming out with this and must be even hard on him due to fact hes still playing.

I know that there are many intercounty footballers around the country who are big into their betting and can guarantee you hes not alone but maybe not to the magnitude of niall's problem.

This raises the issue then of players betting on matches they play in and i feel bookmakers are dangling a huge carrott in front of players by offering betting on matches like O byrne cup,Fbd etc.

This has become an ever bigger issue in the last number of years where lots of guys are out of work and with less and less income available to them so the temptation is always there to let a league game slip for the sake of collecting on a bet.

It may not be as simple as throwing a game but there are also markets available now on the amount of points a player scores so a forward having an off day and not having his shooting boots may end in him earning a few quid by backing himself to score under 1.5 points etc at even money.

Obviously not all GAA players have the same gamblers mind which i have and wouldnt think of such a thing but i know that the gaa betting has grown hugely over the last number of years.

I think that its just a matter of time before we hear of an inquiry into unusual betting on a gaa game be it intercounty or club but i think that its something waiting to happen.

Watch the space.............................

Interesting to hear peoples thoughts on this.

PS. Niall Mc best of luck with your recovery and look forward to seeing you back in an Offaly jersey

Gmit defeated Clare last wednesday 10 points to 9 in a challenge. Should be a good few challenges lined up for next tuesday and wednesday as teams try out different players and narrow down their panels

Any word on Roscommon team for tomorrow or if many lads available or not? GMIT i hear are in decent shape this year with Eoin Donnelan( Former Salthill and St Brigids manager at the helm. They beat Clare last wed night in a challenge

Have Sligo named a team for tomorrows game? Dont see anything online for side named. Prob have a few lads togging out for the IT tomorrow night.

Its great that the GAA season is back in action again and get great satisfaction out of it for the next 9 months.

Must say that looks a very weak and inexperienced galway team on paper. Majority of team is under 21 side from last year with exception of Donohue,Bradshaw bane Kenny and Conroy. Suppose hes putting faith in his 21s side from last year but i cant see us making much of an impact on this years championship......

15/8 on Sligo IT may be worth a little punt seeing as they have a lot of football under their belt already this year with Sigerson Cup coming up and Mulholland will probably make a lot of changes during the game to give lads a run out.

interesting to hear peoples thoughts on this aswell as NUIG game against Sligo. Remember Nuig had a lot of Mayo lads on last years side with Greg  Higgins and josh moore being the only galway lads on the side.

Say that managing Nicky Joyce will be one of Mulholland's biggest challenges in his first year of senior intercounty management.

These training programmes seem to be the biggest joke around and making a mockery of the training ban. All the major counties have players training in smaller groups of 15-20 players but aren't being referred to at all as being the senior intercounty panel.

If a county abides by the training ban it will mean that they are 4 weeks or more behind other counties in terms of fitness and preperation and results may suffer at the start of the league
