Cheers Heffo, appreciate that - issue I think is that on something like Cul Green we need make sure we realise there can be frustrations of fans and transport can certainly be one of those,

Sorry for delay posting on this, only just seen it this morning so I'm nervously sticking my head up!

Among other things, I manage the Cúl Green website for ESB, GAA and Croke Park. It is funded by the ESB. Just coming back on some of the points raised above,

I agree with Bud that poor transport timetabling is a real problem, nice to actually be able to watch the end of a game - we are talking to Iarnrod Eireann and Bus Eireann about better service to coincide with kick off and full time and agree that lot more work to be done in this area. A park and ride service was started last year, it was very well received and we will be continuing it this year. No doubt there is a responsibility on us in this area,

Cúl Green is a joint initiative between ESB, GAA and Croke Park to make the stadium carbon neutral over the next five years. The website is intended to encourage people to cut down on their energy use whether at home or travelling to and from Croke Park. It has been very well received, launched last summer and since then there have been over 40,000 carbon saving pledges made by just over 15,000 people. There is a pledging engine behind the website provided by a company called CRed (University of East Anglia).

The other side of Cúl Green is the work done by environmental engineers working within the stadium putting in place an environment management system. Annual objectives and targets are set related to energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation and other operations at the Stadium. These systems are independently audited and recently received its ISO14001 meaning that best practise is being applied and results being delivered. This work is described at http://www.culgreen.ie/en/CrokePark_en.aspx

In terms of PR bandwagons Cornafean, of course all sponsorship initiatives are looking to positively influence people's perception of companies but Cúl Green was not put together as a short term green promotion, it is a five year commitment to Croke Park and is part of ESB's wider commitment to renewable energy sources which was outlined in its 2020 framework last year. Agree green is a popular one these days but there is alot more to ESB's commitment than that.

Think bit harsh Billy on comments about the website and approach, not saying we've got everything right with it but the site is fairly well planned and put together – not trying to be a definitive environment website but doing best to give an idea of what is happening within the stadium and encourage people to cut down energy use and save some money.

The environmental engineers within Croke Park have been working with local clubs throughout the country, advising (where asked) on how to update the club making most of the latest sustainable energy technology, waste management etc. In some cases they've traveled down to the clubs to discuss in person and in other cases just answered questions as necessary – looking at cost effectiveness of solar or wind installations, length of time for capital cost to be repaid etc. As RednBlack says, there is no doubt these clubs have been seeing savings as a result of this work.

Anyway, not expecting to win you all over but wanted to answer some of the comments best I could and certainly accept issue with public transport and hopefully we can make the "take train/bus" pledge a bit easier in time.
