Another disappointing day for us. Two key moments went against us, firstly the penalty which I felt was pretty harsh but when the ball broke  the referee clearly impeded the Cavan defender who tried to go down on the ball, it breaks to Kildare and in the net. (at the end of the 2nd half when he interfered with a Cavan attack he threw up the ball). That aside the red card for Damien O Reilly was the killer. Damien needs to have a long hard look at himself as this was totally stupid and gave Kildare a chance against the wind. It could be a big red card as it may be the one that gets us relegated.

A couple of professional fouls by Kildare prevented us getting in for a goal which may have made a game of it.

In fairness to Cavan we tried something different in the forwards but it just didn't work as the ball in was not good enough. McDermott does so much right but then foolishly runs into contact and gets turned over. Martin Reilly doing the same. I really worry for us now, hard to see where the next 3 points are going to come from.
Dont think the ref beat us but the goal was a joke. A clear throw ball. Thr difference today was that Kildare took their scores from distance when they had the wind, Cavan were unable to do the same. Cavan hadnt a clue how to play with the wind, nothing learned from last week. Damien O'Reilly's red might have been a small bit harsh i thought, but if you do stupid shit like that you are leaving yourself open to it. Why did he get involved? I think we might have gotten something out of the game if he hadn't been sent off. Kildare are a good strong side and had the edge over us in the physical side of things. It really highlighted how much of a loss Givney and Keating are. Both are big, strong ball winners and could have made the difference tonight.
I think we are going backwards at the minute and I'm dreading the thoughts of Monaghan. What can the management do to improve things? Who else can they bring in?

Only a bit of banter, rodders. DH - there's probably a few boxes of teabags in the house too that u can drop back to him.

I very much doubt that a Cavanman would be leaving unused teabags after him!
Was he not a Kildare man at the time?

You can take the man out of.........

I'd say he brought his hurl back home with him and used it for firewood!
I know what shouldve been done with his hurl! :o
This is a big game for Cavan and Hyland. If he doesn't do something to fix the full forward line it will be hard to keep the faith much longer, we need them scoring. 3 points from play between Dunne and Mcdermot is a poor return. Is Argue fit? I would stick him into the full forward line and let him cause some bother. Saving the U-21s is all well and good but at this stage would we rather win another Ulster U21 or stay in Div 2?

As a matter of interest, would you devalue Galways hurling AI's in the same way?

Cavan have 39 ulsters other than 97 all were won pre early 60s. Far ahead of any other ulster county.  Down only got going in 60 and have 5 sams. In the next 50 years down and throne will probably win more than cavan.
Cavan developed a fabulous tradition but partition gave it a huge advantage it no longer has imo.
Im not really arguing with you as regards the Ulster titles, but you can't say that Cavan would've won less AI's if partition had never happened. Its wasnt just Ulster teams that couldn't beat them ffs! Why did Cavan stop winning Ulsters after 69 if they had such a "huge advantage"? If there was any sense to what you are saying, why then Just when things were reaching their worst point in the North, when this so called advantage was at its peak, did Cavan stop winning Ulster titles? You are talkin shite lad! Why did Donegal and monaghan not win more? Monaghan won 15 Ulsters by the 80s, why no All Irelands to go with them? Did Cavan beat Keryy in the 47 final because of partition? Some of the greatest players of all time were on that team, you do them a disservice.

I think Tyrone's period in purgatory should be shorter than meath's due to secular factors influencing fuball in the wee six. Ulster was basically excluded from competitive fuball from the onset of the war in 1969 until wee james and linden in 91. This was a sporting anomaly. Throne are worth more than 3 all irelands and are at least a good a franchise as Cork who have 7. Going back further Cavan would probably not have won 5 all irelands if there had been no partition.
A very annoying post, in more ways than one.
Cavan's five AI's have nothing to do with partition, that is just mental. You could argue that Cavan have won more Ulsters than they would've if  not for partition, but not AI's. Cavan were the best team in the country for each AI, other teams in Ulster had no bearing on that. In fact it would make more sense to say that Cavan would've won more AI's if there had been no partition because they would improve with more competition. Its easy to forget that Cavan were going for three in a row when they were beaten in the '49 final. I dont think partition had any influence on that. They won 3 AI's between 47-52 and were in 4 finals. They were beaten in the final in 43, 45 and 49. That was not partition, it was one of the great teams in the history of the game.
Down won 3 AI' in the sixties, the "onset of war" isnt what stopped them winning more after that, it was time. Its like saying Dublin would have less AI's if Kilkenny played football instead of so much hurling.

GAA Discussion / Re: GAA doing a deal with SkySports

I use GAAGO in London, its a grand job. Not enough games though, and ten quid per game if you dont buy the season pass is a bit much. It is handy though because I can't get Sky where I live so if it wasnt for GAAGO I couldnt see the games. I dont think the Sky deal is is a good idea. If Sky are showing a game, it cant be shown on GAAGO, the GAA's own channel!

Hardy

do you think people now are more intelligent than those our age in the 30s? I don't. The potential for genocide is always there.

I wouldn't say we are any more intelligent now but we certainly have access to lot more information. I read somewhere that the average I.Q has risen every decade for the last hundred years or so and that someone with the average IQ 100 years ago would be considered retarded in todays levels!
I think it is possible for something like this to happen again, but, With modern rolling-news media, camera phones being everywhere, there isn't a chance that it could be happening without the rest of the world knowing about it and, you would hope, putting a stop to it.

The subs will get the accolades but McKenna hardly put a foot wrong all night. He was needed - gone is the marquee 0-6 forward. Sean was tightly marked from the start.

Good second half by McNulty - reminded me of Harry Og at minor.

Cavan definitely have a half time problem.
Cavan were like a different team in the second half. Back to the puke style, passing over and back crap. Tyrone picked it up a lot in the second half to be fair but Cavan just fell apart

award for worst commentator on any station worldwide must go to sidebottom

Lay off Sidey. I don't understand why he gets so much abuse.

Because he is a patronising bollix that knows nothing about football
correct!
