GAA Discussion / Re: Mayo v Galway 26.6.11
June 26, 2011, 06:20:45 PM
As a mate of mine said after the game, Galway are the only county that coach the football out of their players. Abysmal today, some of the management decisions today were baffling.Took off Bane, Conroy & Hehir and left on Higgins, Burke & Sice. Time for John Joe and the rest of the suits in the CB to hang their heads in shame and clear off. Hard to see things getting an better in Navan.

Bowl C, totally unneccesary for that draw!!!

Excellent win for Galway today, looked very classy at times. The likes of Hehir, Boyle, O'Curraoin, Flynn should be brought into the Senior panel now, not next year or the year after. They're all on top of their game at the moment, if Cork, Kerry or Tyrone had these type of players you can be sure they'd be promoted to the senior panel already. Would also give a shoe in the arse to the same oul stale players that appear year after year for Galway. At 19, 20, 21 should be well able for Senior football.

Bit of a shock, this one. A pity. Sammon had Galway playing good stuff again even though they went down in the CF and against Donegal. But it was only by a point each time.

He's a gent with a lot of class.

Hard to agree. Shambles this year. Brutal against Sligo, played for 5 mins against Mayo. And an absolute disaster against Donegal. For a man that was supposed to be an excellent coach, his team selection and tactics were way off. Might have had an OK season in 2008, most first year managers do.

Nice guys don't win!!!

A lot of posters seem to think Galway went downhill after the second half of the Mayo league game in Tuam this year. To be honest Galway have done nothing championship wise since September 2001, thats 8 seasons of mediocrity with virtually the same bunch of players that were in Sligo tonight. We are an average side that seems to get hyped up to be the 3rd/4th best team in the country based on what? The only non-Connacht team they have beaten in that time is Louth. Time for a think on the future of Galway football and how its played

PS:  I hope now people will stop yakking on about Galway and Kerry in the rain last year, Galway still lost by 5 points against a side in decline.

Time for Sammon & Co to get the finger out and pick the best team. Galway set up all wrong last Sunday but still only managed to lose by a point. He still has the basis of a very good team there. They should be good enough to beat Donegal if he picks the right team. Would go for the following selection:

1. P Doherty
2. K Fitzgerald
3. F Hanley
4. D Burke
5. G Bradshaw
6. D Blake
7. D Mullahy
8. J Bergin
9. P Conroy
10. C Bane
11. N Joyce
12. G Sice
13. S Armstrong
14. M Meehan
15. P Joyce

Faherty should have taken man ball and all for Mayos second goal. Mortimer should have been waking up in Merlin Park, wasn't great for the 1st goal either. Doherty better shot stopper.
Fitz in for Coyne got eaten against Sligo & Mayo
Drop Coleman gave possesion to Mayo everytime he touched the ball the last day
P Joyce hasn't legs for CF any more move him in closer to goal, same with Armstong should be closer to goal.

Drop Breathnach, Cullinane & JJ Greaney off panel altogether average club footballers

GAA Discussion / Re: Joyce and Donnellan Retire
November 17, 2006, 05:18:30 PM
Donnellan was a class act, with a serious engine. Plagued by injuries over the last few years though. Joyce will go down as one of Galways greats, but in fairness he has done nothing for Galway since 2001. Both are around the 30 mark, the fact that Peter Ford is back again this year probably made the decision for them. With that lad as manager Galway are going nowhere. I don't think they fulfilled their true potential could have won a few more all irelands.
