Does anyone know if the Connaught-Ulster semi-final is on the 19th or the 26th of August?

GAA Discussion / Re: GPA or GAA?

To all anti GPA posters: So you prefer to see various county secretaries throughout the country being paid fulltime? the likes of our super intelligent Friends in the Tyrone county board, you would prefer to see Nicky Brennan and his band of cronies sitting behind their desks in croke park getting paid full time than inter county players who shed blood and sweat on waterlogged shitholes in the middle of January? These players are doing it for their counties and for you the supporters. I am not advocating professional status, but a fund could easily be set up whereby all intercounty players get a couple of hundred euro a week for their efforts.

GAA Discussion / Re: Mayo v Kerry

Anyone like to share their views on what the team might be, Id say Johno will pick something close to his first 15 for this one and get the season off to a good start.

Clarke in goal

Id say he will keep Kilcullen FB, what better game to test a player than against Kerry! with O Malley and Keith Higgins either side of him the 2 best CBs in the county IMO.

Likewise I wouldnt be surprised to see the Billy Joe experiment continue, with Gardiner one wing and possibly Heaney on the other which I think is his best position plus the midfield thing didnt seem to go too well for him the last day.

David Brady and McGarrity in midfield.

Id like to see Dillon start centre forward, played there for the all-stars in the exhibition game and was supposed to have had a good one,T Mort is back to his best after a long spell of absence and should start one wing and Id have kilcoyne the other side.
Its good to see A. Campell makin an impact in the first couple of games however I still think hes a bit young and this represents a major step up in class.

Mort one corner, Austin in FF who seems to have regained his form and Id say Andy Moran in the other corner although Id like to see Kev O Neill come in at some stage providing hes fit.

So thats:
Clarke
O malley, Kilcullen, Higgins
Gardiner, BJP, Heaney
Brady, McGarrity
T Mort, Dillon, Kilcoyne
C Mort, AOM, Moran.

GAA Discussion / Re: 20 Questions

1. Why your user name. The messiah himself, and hopefully the year we find the holy grail!
2. Favourite all time game. Has to be against the Dubs this year.
3. Favourite all time player from your county. the bullet from belmullet, Willie Joe
4. Favourite other poster on gaaboard.com. Not on long but Mayo4Sam and Barney seem to know their stuff.
5. Things you'd like to see change on the site. looks alrite so far.
6. Player from another county you admire. Anthony Daly
7. Dual players. Should they be allowed do both (why/ why not) defo, and the GAA should do more to accomadate them.
8. Dublin Hurling, IS there hope? *question for dubs. If they can manage to bring the young lads onto senior they should be competitive in a few years.
9. Best Moment of the year? The Macs clincher against Dublin
10. Worst moment of the year? Coopers Goal after hitting the post firstly. That was the final nail in the coffin.
11. Breasts or bum? Breasts
12. Breaking ball or park live? Not even a contest, BB
13. (Situation) Cork v Meath (if from Meath Cavan V Dublin) in an All-ireland final. You have to shout for one or your head will explode. What do you do? *question for dubs. Cork
14. DJ Or Eoin Kelly. Both pure magic but Kelly gets it for more consistency.
15. What your own county needs to do to win Sam next year? Need to find a full back, centre back and corner back, need to beef up a bit, be more aggressive and less nice and unfortunately need more cyniscism.
16. How do you stop (legally, Meath lads) Kieran Donaghy. Big full back and a sweeper.
17. Hopes for 2007. SAM, couldnt really be anything else.
18. Who will win Sam in 2007. Mayo
19. Who will win Liam in 2007. Waterford. If the whole GerLough Ego works with Galway they'll be close too.
20. Your Gaaboard resolution for 2007. Post more

QuoteThe one thing I would say is that I will be lucky to be elected with Enda Kenny as leader and John O'Mahony as Mayo manager running alongside me. It is a very dangerous election for me with two high-profile candidates running as well."

Micheal tryin to ensure he gets his full backing

Hes a "cute hoor" that Ring, he'll still top the poll by a mile anyway!

Mayo / Re: mayo hurling
November 28, 2006, 07:59:45 PM
I think its clear that the main men in the 6 senior hurling clubs need to come together and form a mayo county hurling board similar to the one currently operating in Galway. Do this now or else face years of trying to talk to football men who wouldnt know a hurl from their a*rse. The same shite is happening in both football and hurling clubs throughout the country where the traditionalists in the clubs dont want to see the lesser games advancing through fear. Seperation is the answer and it needs to happen now or the wedge between the stronger hurling counties and the weaker ones will get bigger and bigger.

"Eh?

We've won 2 All-Ireland's in the past 10 years. As have Tyrone. And Meath."

I was clearly talking about All Ireland semi-final victories.

"And I agree - you can always rely on Mayo when you're looking for someone worse off than yourself."

I much prefer being a mayo supporter with 5 provincial titles, and 4 All-Ireland semi final wins in the last 10 years than being a supporter of a weaker county, such as Cavan. Only Kerry can better us on the statistics iv just stated, Fair enough the finals were very hard to take but its better having an almost guaranteed long summer of going to matches than sitting at home in August watching the Sunday Game wishing your own county was there.

As a mayoman Id have to say Kevin Walsh, the best midfielder of the modern era IMO. As they say forwards can do nothing unless the ball is given into them Walsh was an unreal fielder. I think the last couple of years of Joyce and Donnellan have put them back a bit in my head but still class acts in their day. Also think Niall Finnegan would be close enough to that shortlist, was class in 98.

Lads whats this about Mortimer being lucky, I know hes a bit of a pleb and i dont particularly like him myself but he was topscorer from both play and frees plus the all-stars are based on the whole year not just one match so theres no arguing with his selection.

Mayo / Re: New Mayo Manager

I agree with rosnarun that we have to be looking at SAM next year, we should keep him for the 3 years regardless but success has to be the ultimate goal. Heaney, Brady, O Neill, Nallen, Mc Donald havnt long left and their definately not going to be thinking in terms of a "3 year plan". Also if you look at the last 10 years half the All Irelands have been won by managers in their first year in charge Paidí 97, Johnno 98, Kernan 02, Heart 03, O Connor 04.

With regards to the supposed "big 3" of the last few years, If you were to ask their supporters and players what their goal for next year was they would only tell you one thing, Sam. We shouldnt be any different.
Roll on 07!
