GAA Discussion / Re: 2007 All Stars

Fermanagh played armagh twice this year - unless my memory is wrong Owens got MOTM in the drawn game, and Clarke got MOTM in the replay - 2 class acts with not much separating them whenever they meet.
Barry got his all-star on the basis of exposure this year - in Fermanagh's 2 televised games this year, v Armagh and Donegal he was man of the match in both. He was pretty steady all year without being spectacular.
He got his award becuase he didn't really have any competition - Bellew was poor apart from the Donegal game (he was brutal both days against Fermanagh), Heaney is a CHB/Midfielder playing full back and looks it against quality forwards (Donaghy, Keaney and even Garvan for a half) got the better of him this year, and both Kerry and Dublin lack quality at full-back

GAA Discussion / Re: Mistakes that cost games:
November 16, 2006, 11:30:55 AM
June 1997 - Cavan v Fermanagh in the 1st round.
Two mistakes in this game:
1st minute of injury time Fermanagh a point up. McBarron on the 21 with Raymie Gallagher inside him. Raymie had scored 1-7 at this stage so Liam decides to have a shot himself. Hits the post and back into play.
2nd mistake is ever giving that p***k Jim Curran a whistle. He decides to add on 6minutes of injury time to allow Cavan an equaliser.
Match finishes level, Cavan win the replay and go on to win a very handy Ulster title.

GAA Discussion / Re: Ulster Club Championships

"And had any decent referee been officiating, Enniskillen would NOT have finished with 14 men.  Accept facts as they are - Enniskillen set out to play negative football and target Errigal's key men rather than play the ball, it backfired and they got beaten.  God forbid that style of play should represent Ulster!"

Overthebar - I think you have missed the "facts as they are" - Errigal Ciaran played for the majority of the second half with 15players, when they should only have had 14. That is the only fact that is relevant to any Enniskillen appeal.

Enniskillen are certainly well entitled to appeal to the Ulster Council - the fact remains that Errigal Ciaran played around 20minutes of the second half with 15players, when there should only have been 14players on the field. I spoke to one of the Enniskillen players on monday and asked him why nobody had kicked up a fuss when McDermott was booked for the second time - he siad because there had been so many cards dished out at that stage the players had no idea who was or was not booked.
I think the Gaels have a reasonable case here - others on here might know the details, but I was nearly sure that Enniskillen were leading 4-3 when McDermott received his second yellow card. The fact that the game was extremely close should mitigate in their favour.
However precedant has been set in this case re the Derry/Cork minor match - so if the Ulster council wish to, they can rule it out of order on this basis. I assume there is no possibility of Errigal Ciaran offering Enniskillen a reply - I seem to remember Derry appealing to Cork's better nature after the minor fiasco?
On a side issue Ballinderry would probably beat  a combination of both teams anyway

GAA Discussion / Re: Rory Gallagher, the new Cavan man

Can't see Rory lasting until the end of the season with Cavan to be honest - whilst he is an excellent footballer and keeps himself in great shape, his attitude is awful - and this would outweigh all his other benefits.
Cavan have a good free taker in Seanie Johnson, a decent play maker in Michael Lyng (when fit) - so I can't see how Rory will fit in.
