GAA Discussion / Re: What makes a winning team?...
January 18, 2008, 02:47:37 AM
Ye seem to be stickin with an all ulster side so heres my all ireland team of the past 10-15 years, very hard team to pick and was a close call on every position but heres me 'walkin the walk' im sure there'l be plenty of disagreement but thats what we're on here for!!!

1-Stephen Cluxton(greatest shot stopper-kept dublin in more games)
2-Paul Griffin(to me epitomizes what defending is all about)
3-Darren Fay(great footballer, solid, and showed his class once again last year)
4-Ryan McMenamin(dirty f*cker, nobody wants to be marked by him,but can get inside fellas heads and a born defender, plays well centre back too for club)
5-Tomas O'Se(pure talent, shows what it means to be a kerry player)
6-Ciarain McGeeney(true professional,great footballer,pleasure to watch)
7-Paul Curran(my hero growin up,he is football, solid in defence, hard to follow with his effective bursts forward up the line, scored a bit too!!)
8-Darragh O'Se(work horse of a man, great head, shows how well you can play with family and lifelong friends by ur side)
9-Sean Cavanagh(mountain of a man,on his day he owns football)
10-Alan Brogan(he's got a head for football that is hard matched, great vision, passes, scores, play.hopefully bring sam home this year!!!)
11-Trevor Giles(excellent footballer and free taker, pure gentleman of the game, well deserved AI medals and all stars)
12-Brian Dooher(looks like he has finished a game before it starts!extremely talented and anyone who can shut colm o rourke up has my vote!!)
13-Charlie Redmond(another hero of mine but excellent footballing mind, solid with the frees, def deserves his place)
14-Peter Canavan(well ya dont need me to tell ya!!)
15-Colm Cooper(broke my heart last year, will again im sure, amazin talent,in years to come we'l be the envy of generations for seein him play at his best)

who could take the team to glory?? sure il give Micko another crack at it,pat o neill and mickey harte as selectors!! We wont miss many frees anyway!!!! :D

It is all about the Dubs! The world revolves around Parnell Park - aye indeed!

Siobhan Madigan was doing a sports report on the Marian Finucane show a few minutes ago. She said:

"The GAA season began last night in Parnell Park when the Dubs took on Wicklow!"

Has Monaghan not already played against QUB this season in the McKenna Cup - one week ago?

Will 2008 be the year that the Dubs realise that the Universe does not centre on them?

howya, just because Siobhan Madigan mentioned it, doesnt mean all dub supporters think the world revolves around us. iv been travelling for a couple years nows, playin ball mixin with ppl from all counties and i can think of several county die-hards that think the universe centres on them more than any dub fan! tell me a county that doesnt-or wishes they could think like that!! ;) we all hav them-granted we hav a few more than some due to population but they generally only start talkin like that come sunny days in croke park and most of them couldnt tell ya where parnell park is never mind park tailteann or neighbourin county pitches!! everyone loves to hate the dubs-but we're not all a shower of h**rs!!! ;D ;D ;D

think Oisin gives most of his time to hurling so as yet has not played any football for the lillywhites. Were there many seasoned campaigners playing for the harps? When I was there Doire Reid, Seamie Brennan and Felim Gormley were all seasoned campaigners!

yea they were all there swearin it was there last year, martin conlan was superb in goal all year, some man!! mick whitty was there playin well but sadly his ma passed so he went home before the final for the funeral. bernie and kramer still there for the sessions and noel quinlivins young lad had a great year for us,so he'l do well in the future

Who got footballer of the year this year in Auckland? Oisin Lynch won it last year. He played for the harps and was a fine footballer. He went on to represent Kildare hurlers in croke park this year and won kildare hurler of the year.

not to sure who got player of the year il find out off one of the boys,i was late to the awards nite cos the car broke down the top of cape reinga and we had to hitch back to auckland. colm donnelly from tyrone won harps player of the year(he won the tyrone championship with dromore last year) and the legend that is feilim gormley won harps players player of the year. david carmody(gaels) won player of the year at the australasian games in sydney, might hav won auckland player too,il find out and get back to ya. heard all about oisin, sure mick was on the bubbles one nite(one nite says u!!) and he was talkin about flyin oisin over for the final! any sign of him playin football for kildare?

Bernie must be 45 by now. He played along with me in London for 2 years when he was coaching at Harlequins. I have known him for well over 20 years, he's a great lad, but very very competitive. You don't become an All Black without that bit of an edge. He won a  senior league medal in London about 2000. He marked Jody Gormley in the final (Jody played for Tir Chonaill Gaels) and didn't give Jody a smell of it.

yea he's got a competitive streak in him alright, sound man tho we sat down and had a couple of beers before he had to head to A & E cos of the hand!! ah we took them well in the semi final, must hav bet them by about 10 points in the end but he was missin cos of the hand, not a bad footballer tho!

GAA Discussion / football in auckland

spent a bit of time living in NZ recently, played football for auckland harps an was an absolute lifesaver to hav some home comforts over there and swappin club an county stories with the lads from rival teams. A big thanks goes to the ppl on the board over there who work year in year out and work so hard to make us all settle in and feel welcome, only to have us all leave and hav to start again with a new bunch of ppl but they still plug on and do outstanding work. but what needs to be done is the GAA back home need to send over some more funds, footballs are like golddust(whoever has played there will agree!!!)they rely on family and friends to post some over, they make the most of the little they hav and never moan but a little help would be nice from the top boys! if any of the crew read this, keep up all the hard work,ye hav no idea the difference ye make to the hoards of travelling irish!!! slan agus banacht!!

ps. 'on the harps' !!!!!!! 'there's only 1 mick o'malley!!!!!
