That one of the most powerfully honest and courageous things I've ever read.  Fair play LL.  Truly inspirational.

Congratulations and best wishes.

'Understanding Power' is brilliant, would definitely be the top of the list.  'Manufacturing Consent' is also excellent, if you're feeling lazy you can watch the documentary on google vids.  Also recommended 'Failed States', 'Perilous Power', 'What We Say Goes'.
I'd also suggest checking out Howard Zinn and some of his stuff.

I don't see the point in basing my belief system or indeed my moral code on Bronze Age fairy tales. Thank God for Atheism.

Excellent! Any other links of a similar nature?

Fearsiuil, you're spot on, Cotoneaster is the only job for this.  My Dad sold plants for forty years and this has always been a brilliant solution for the steep bank dilemma.  I had the same problem when I bought my house and it was the first thing I thought of.  Clearing and preparing the bank was an almighty pain, but the results are worth it.  Whatever you do UTB don't fall into the trap of covering it with plastic and then stone or bark.  You only have to drive round a bit and see the results. It might look good for about ten minutes but after a while, with the rain and gravity, it looks awful.

Having lived away for nearly ten years in England, France and the States, and visited 20 odd countries around the world, I reckon there are two types of people - those who are Irish and those who want to be. Stand up and be proud!
