Aghyaran kicked 18 wides and 6 balls short into the keepers hands.
Killyclogher had 4 wides. Admittedly conditions were very difficult with a strong wind across the pitch, however some of the Aghyaran wides were still inexcusable.
Referee poor and linesman made a very poor call giving line ball to Killyclogher in the build up to second goal when it was clearly an Aghyaran ball.
Shane Sweeney having to leave the game for around 20 minutes with an injury was a big blew to Aghyaran as both goals were conceded in his absence. Killyclogher will need to improve a lot to make any further headway. Hopefully conditions and football improve for the rest of the weekend.

ST DAVOGS ANNOYED AT BEING IN THE DOCK

A LEADING figure of Aghyaran GFC has strenuously refuted any suggestion that the injury sustained by Tyrone star, Brian McGuigan was caused by anything other than an accidental collision.

And the North Tyrone club has come out fighting against national media and local press reports insinuating that the club was unsympathetic towards the county player's plight.

Back in May the Red Hand maestro sustained a facial injury in an attempted comeback bid during a Reserve team game between Ardboe and Aghyaran.

The injury turned out worse than first suspected and McGuigan has recently gone through a series of operations to repair a detached retina in a bid to save the sight in his left eye.

Last week McGuigan's father, Frank said that he feared for his son's eyesight and suggested that his playing days could well be over.

The Tyrone legend also launched a scathing attack on what he perceived as the Aghyaran club's lack of interest in his son's well being, a claim unequivocally refuted by the St Davog's.

Speaking to the Herald this week, St Davog's club secretary and Reserve team boss, Patrick McSorley said that his club didn't want to get involved in a public spat as that served no purpose for anyone, least of all Brian McGuigan. The leading office bearer though said his club felt it necessary to defend and clarify its position.

The secretary said that the club regretted the injury to the player but stressed that it was purely an accident.

" We as a club dismiss any suggestion that we haven't enquired about the player's well being," said Mr McSorley.

"I have spoken to Ardboe chairman Kevin Teague. He was the umpire in the match in question; he saw nothing, the referee saw nothing. It was an accident. The player involved in the accident is a clean player.

" He is an inoffensive young player, a very clean and a well mannered player. There is absolutely no malice, or dirt in him whatsoever. The club has every confidence in saying that. This whole saga has caused unwarranted stress for the young player.

" It is very regrettable that any player playing the game gets injured. It is very regrettable and it is very regrettable that Brian McGuigan got injured in this accident.

" It is sad to see any player getting injured, irrespective who it is, whether he is not a very skilful player or not an important player, it makes no difference.

" Our club has contacted Ardboe and we are still in contact with Ardboe and that is the way clubs should work, chairman to chairman, secretary to secretary.

" Aghyaran have been in constant dialogue with Ardboe and we just wish Brian McGuigan a speedy recovery and want to see him back on the big stage once again."

The secretary said that his club felt extremely aggrieved that they had been portrayed in a very poor light by sections of the media, all because the injured party was one of the county's leading stars.

"If it had have been an Ardboe nobody there wouldn't have been a word about it," he insisted.

"More often than not these things are not followed up on. We have had various injuries over the years to players at all levels and opposing club players have sustained injuries against us.

"Very often and it's regrettable but clubs don't follow up. There is no written rule; it's down to common decency.

"I can assure you that we have not been found wanting in this respect. I have spoken to Kevin Teague and Cathal Forbes no further way than last weekend. Our chairman has also contacted Ciaran Devlin of the Ardboe club while our PRO Kieran McHugh has spoken to the McGuigan family. Sometimes people say and do things that they later regret and we are all guilty of that from time to time. Unfortunately the image of our club has been tarnished through no fault of its own."

Orangeman everything I have stated is fact and I can produce witness, copies of letters, emails etc to verify everything I have said.
As the matter is heading for the courts I have been very very careful with the content of my message.

This is my first post to the forum and I post for only one reason.

I am from Aghyaran and I think perhaps the public should be aware that the reason for the Aghyaran club's silence on this matter is fairly obvious i.e. a short time after the accident the club were told that the matter was being referred to solicitors as Brian intended to take a legal claim for compensation against the Aghyaran young player involved in the accidental collision.

It has been very difficult for Aghyaran people to sit back and read the absolute lies and propagranda in papers etc written about the accident.

It was a total accident regardless of what anyone writes.  I was only yards from the incident and no one at the time ref, umpires etc who all had a clear view of the incident thought it was anyway deliberate.  Frank McGuigan senior wasn't even in the ground when the accident happened. He only arrived later.

Aghyaran club and members sent there best wishes to Brian after the accident, one official spoke to Brian on the telephone and Aghyaran were also in contact with Ardboe officials in the days after Brian's injury to enquire about his well being but somewhere along the line Frank senior seems to totally blanked this from his memory!!!

I can assure you that everyone in Aghyaran wishes Brian a full and speedy recovery.
