Quote from: Mario on July 29, 2025, 03:32:07 PMThe only thing i remember Oisin McWilliams doing for the senior team is coming on as a sub and scoring a great point v Dublin in Celtic park in 2023. Has he done anything else to warrant being mentioned on here every month as an option for the future.

Agree with you Mario, fella's being mentioned here as if they are all stars when they've barely played county or aren't standing out in club games a lot of the time. Then you mention Jamie Brennan and Paddy McBrearty and fella's dismiss them.
Mc Brearty has been average at best since returning from a bad injury and probably only retains his place in the squad from a bit of Mc Guinness loyalty.

Has Jamie Brennan ever been a regular on Donegal team bar one really good season.
Don't buy into this narrative that Donegal squad is so much stronger than Derry we're particularly quick to play down our own men, alot of decent footballers in Donegal squad but as Kerry showed them there's more to it than super fit and systems.

there's a debate, I think the great Kerry/Dublin to lesser extent Tyrone had a commitment/life balance.

Chrissy is more of a Mc Guinness/Gallagher suited player of absolutely relentless obsession to win, personally I think while that will bring success (hopefully) its also unsustainable long term.

Im skeptical about such a recently involved player being in MGMT but CMcK is a solid guy[will his view of old comrades/friends be skewed etc?]

Derry can really play ball when they want to, Meenagh is positive minded and should be interesting to see what happens.

I can't see it being skewed at all, listening to him on any pitch club and county he leaves no room for complacency.

My only fear would be he will expect the commitment levels that he gave for so long and for alot this is will be too much. He's completely dedicated his life to Slaughneil and Derry.

If only we hadn't won an Ulster championship and the NFL under Tyrone men that would be funny. Not forgetting the Fermanagh native who also won an Ulster championship. I guess Tyrone and Antrim know better than to appoint any manager from outside their borders.

Mucker im like Malachy call Tyrone my home now. So Malachy a Tyrone man at this stage and that's right you went after that Tyrone man and he turned u down. Lmao. If Ciaran doesn't work out wee gerry donnelly the minor Tyrone Minor manager might next try for your proud county with one all Ireland and know decent natice managers.  ;D  ;D
Do.you think the Tyrone men tendency to chase the pounds is the reason their club football is so weak on the big stage. For such a football dedicated county never to have won Club all ireland is shockingly poor statistic.

Went and watched Slaughneil last night they are sharp, Mc Guigan in particular looked very good in spells and Mc Kaigue organising everything.

Looked like were going to put big score on Kilrea but took their foot of the pedal and nearly got caught with last minute goal flattering them in the end.
Good to see Patsy still playing away and doing a job for them.

Still undecided on this Doran man, don't know if he's a good coach or a bit of a journeyman. Find it odd he got back after initially stepping away after Glen tore them open last year.

Quote from: OakLeaf on July 22, 2025, 11:20:09 PMNothing between Glen and Newbridge. I'd fancy Newbridge to edge it. They could be set to dominate the Senior Championship for a few years now.
Spoken like a patriotic Newbridge man.lol.

Dungiven, Lavey, Magherafelt, Screen and S/neil are dangerous for the two that appear to be slightly out in front.

Quote from: Real Talk on July 20, 2025, 12:48:07 PMC McKaigue wasn't just an excellent man-marker he also marshalled the whole defence and what about the fisted point he got against Mayo in the championship to get the draw that we then got the win in the penalty shoot-out !!!
If he becomes a part of the Derry back-room team he will give it 100% commitment.
100% agree with this. He will set unbelievably high standards that will only benefit the squad.

And as all Derry GAA supporters both club and county know Chrissy has absolutely no desire to be Mr Popular, winning is the priority and he will do everything he can do to get the team there.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on July 19, 2025, 04:21:42 PMBlaming McKeigue cause the keeper wasn't in nets, oh boy! What about the other 3 in that game. Or the multiple that have followed since Donegal last year. Its no better a appointment  than the past 2 management's. Can't understand why Meenagh taking it now when we were in a better position  2 yrs ago and he went to Down.
So who do you think should have got it in all your wisdom?

I would say Meenagh left to put some distance between himself and the Gallagher mess. He as good a coach as there is about. Its better management team than the likes of Mc Entee, Mc Mahon that were linked.

Philly mc Mahon to be even considered for job is based of he sounds like he knows what he's talking about when on the TV.
Meenagh would be a really good appointment still not a manager but, albeit I think more suited than Tally.

His interview after the Kerry semi final where they robbed us 3 years ago was first class, no excuses, no blame just proper clarity of what happened immediately after the game. I thats were Tally let himself down, when you have the big jobs you take responsibility in public at least.

Quote from: Ghost+Tommy on July 17, 2025, 06:52:27 PMHeard on the grapevine from one off PTs ex backroom staff that its Philly Mc Mahon with a couple off his own trusted men,and a derry contigent off Mc Kaigue,D Mc Erlain and Lockhart in the backroom team
Just like the last managerial contingent there are plenty of forward/ attacking football visionaries in that group of names. 😔

When you see the stats from the 4 in a row Kerry minor All- Ireland winning teams, they averaged 3 players breaking through into Senior Inter County football per year and out of that number only 6  in total being regular starters. This notion that because we had some underage success that we've a conveyor belt coming through is dream world stuff.

We (like Tyrone) played a ultra efficient brand of football that is now a thing of the past with the new rules. We have massive issues developing forwards and until Derry County Board start getting serious about hiring proven forwards coaches or at very least proven forwards this won't change.

We were linked with about 15 people last year within the space of a few weeks. I'd say he's far enough off at times.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

He's there I think but not sure if he's the manager.
Not sure how it works if a County Board are trying to build their own managerial team, generally proven Inter County managers have their own people.

With Meenagh in there too I'd be happy with that.
