Lavey should be too strong for junior?

Lavey have some serious long term injuries to 4 if not 5 players.  If they were available for the full championship, they wouldnt be in Junior but they are probably exactly where that group of players should be right now.

Quote from: imtommygunn on October 21, 2025, 12:57:56 PMThey are a very very good team though. I really wish Antrim had a forward(or player) of the ability of Brendan Rodgers and even a defender as good as O'Mannion (spelling). That said their inability to make any dent on the AI series maybe shows they're not quite as good as that.

You're joking, right? Just off the top of my head and without much thought, for Brendan Rogers read Keelan Molloy.  For O'Mainian read Pa Burke.

While the two you named are exceptional players, don't overhype them to the point where we couldnt match them.  We can, we have, some would argue that Molloy would be a step beyond Rogers also given his versatility shown at club and county level while Pa Burke has been outstanding for club and county for the last 5 if not 6 years - less so this year for county but there werent may who shone this year in saffron.

My tuppence worth after yesterday.

Loughgiel played their final against Dunloy - extremely difficult to reach those heights back to back matches.  They looked slow and lethargic in the first half in comparison to St John's.  They performed much better in the second half but the Johnnies game management for 95% of the second half was spot on.  Their decision making towards the end with ball in hand wasnt great and could have stretched their lead further on a couple of occasions but tactically they got it spot on for the hour.
Peter McCallin at 6 and Oisin Donnelly were my two top performers.  The Johnston brothers were also excellent, as was Ryan McNulty but this was a top team performance from a well coached and drilled side.  A hat tip to Gerard Cunningham on that note.

Note on the referee.  Biggest compliment I can give Colum is that not one soul was talking about him after the game.  I couldnt disagree with any of the decisions he made and he let the game flow as much as he could - give the conditions that wasnt an easy task.  In my opinion, he gets top marks.

They played the senior hurling final through an amber warning last year.

Quote from: NorthAntrimSaff on October 02, 2025, 03:30:23 PMIs flatness the managers fault or the players? Seems to be a big turnover of players for them? Was it 2 forwards remained from the previous year i think was mentioned on the commentary

Maybe thats what caused his departure? Not enough Downeys from previous years playing and more st bridgets lads

Also nothing to do with the chairman - was a players vote. The meeting was called by Shea downey.

Shea had nothing to do with the initial fall out in Lavey.  It all stemmed from his dad being told the club wanted to take a different direction from him being involved with the senior football management.  Seamus and Henry eventually threw the toys out of the pram and told their lads that they had to move too.

Quote from: EOC1923 on September 15, 2025, 01:40:29 PMNoticed the new Antrim manager there on Saturday at the game. He will have liked some of what he saw though in all likelihood the players he would want are likely not to be available for him. Likes of Seann and Nigel Elliot, Decky Smith and Keelan Molloy. Ronan Boyle had a decent game for St Brigids.

Thought Reuben Carleton had a good game also, putting aside his missed two point frees.

No.  Had been part of a football panel a couple of years back (I think) but he's been unlucky with injuries.

Good underage but never pushed on.

Family name, like in a lot of cases, probably got them a good start.

Must have been a mess the way it ended up.

Will the semi-finals be in Dunsilly?

One played, one came on.  Three others were there - dont know why they werent part of the panel.  Plenty of rumours about fall out etc but you're always going to get that with them given what has transpired.  I would think it's injury as two of them at least looked like they were still very much part of the extended squad.
They are good footballers, very good underage to the point some of them were part of a Lavey side that won the Ulster minor at St Paul's.

There was plenty of their former 'team mates' in attendance at Toome to witness the game  ;)

I dont agree with handing the ball to hand after a foul.  Dropping the ball to feet would probably have been enough.

The rest I think have added massively to the entertainment side of the game.  It's become a nightmare for coaches who have lost a sense of control but the chaos of it all is super.

Calls for club managers to step down etc at this stage of the year is a loada horse sh1t.

League has no meaning other than to blood new faces or younger legs.  Managers won't care about results at this stage of the year and rightfully so.

On a separate note, it's funny how the narrative changes on some folks thoughts on the league when Dunloy defeat an under-strength Creggan i.e. "the manager won't be badly worried" or "they were missing a few regulars." I'd imagine Dunloy were missing as many if not more from what they would call their championship 15.

And Dunloy

25-30 mile be a bit of a stretch for Dunloy, no?
