Thank God the post re Danny has been removed - I didn't see it, but from the reaction it must have been bad. Danny and his family are a credit to Bredagh, Ballycran, Down and the GAA in general. They are amongst the most genuine, honest and decent people you could meet. Whoever posted it should be barred for life - he wouldn't be fit to lack Danny's boots (or Cormac's for that matter).

Into Downpatrick and head up the hill past the police station, out the Killough Road. At the Flying Horse Estate roundabout take a right signposted for Tyrella - pitch a couple of miles out on the left - can't miss it.

Downs time won't come again just because it has in the past.
Things have moved on and Down are 10-years behind the Tyrone's etc.
We don't have the top quality coaches, facilities are crap for development squads etc. What we do have is a lot of very dedicated people all doing their own thing, some well, some badly.
We need direction, money and a will from the top to change things - otherwise we'll be a Div 4 team the year after next.
Someone needs to have the leadship and the status to be allowed make changes. Take a look at how other counties do it and radically change the whole structure.
Someone like Eugene Young would be ideal - but that type of person would cost (not just money) and maybe the will isn't there.

Can't disagree with what has been said by most Down fans - the quality isn't there.
But what annoyed me on Sat night was the obvious lack of an attacking game plan.
Meath had one - in the first half they isolated the ff line and once they got the ball they hit a diagonal pass out in front of the corner men, who had already started running. They got every pass.
The defence  - much criticised - did well enough, especially Scullion and Clarke. The forward line was clueless and leaderless. Benny should have been switched back to the ff line sooner. When our half backs got the ball they didn't know what to do with it - nobody moved, nobody knew where to move to - surely the managements fault if they hadn't been told - most of them don't have the class or wit of a Mickey Linden or James McCartan.
Totally depressed - we need to start from scratch again.
Well - not totally depressed at least the Orangemen got what was coming to them - 8 years of domination and one AI - don't make me laugh!! ;)

Bredagh 0-09 Bright 0-12

The problem wasn't Enda being burnt out - his namesake Jody was training Antrim - most influential player on the team. Bredagh lost most of their games when he was suspended for the red card a few weeks back. He never gives the ball away and is the best athlete in the team - if not in Div 3.

Totally agree with Johnnycool. I think the last 2 years Minor performances are a truer reflection on the state of the County set-up than the St Louis inspired team 3 years ago. 3 scores this year against Monaghan is inept.
Look at Owen Beg or the Mid-Ulster set up at Cookstown - we are asking our Development Squads to go to a council pitch at Annsborough, or to get changed in a byre at Lisnacrees old pitch in Kilkeel. We therefore don't attract the cream to the county set up the way Tyrone do - yes the Kilcoo/Mayobridge/Hilltown lads will participate fully - but other better players in Downpatrick/Newry etc end up playing Milk Cup/Irish League soccer.
We need to make it "the thing" to play for the County, look after them etc - tradition is great, but the kids don't remember 91/94, never mind 60/61/68.

Copied from Hogan Stand - says it all I think

Down V Monaghan
I would like to echo the comments made by other Monaghan supporters with regard to the sporting nature of the Down support on Sunday. I found you to be both knowlegable and fair in your assesment of the match on Sunday. Having had the (dis)pleasure of watching a number of championship matches with your near neighbours in orange over the last few years, where there have been wins and losses for both sides as well as draws I have to admit the difference between two sets of supporters is remarkable. Despite the result the Down support did not whinge abut the the pitch, Monaghan being from the South so the referee being biased in their favour, Monagahan playing dirty when no one in an orange shirt could possibly foul etc etc etc all of which I have had to listen too for the last few years. Instead, while supporting their team passionatley, the Down support took the result on the chin and shook hands at the end of the day. As they say form is tempoary, class is permanent, so no need to do to much soul searching after Sunday, the red and black will be back in due course, when some of our more noisy neighbours will no doubt be a lot quieter.

The full back line and full forward line were poor, but we still scored 1-15.
Monaghan were supposed to be vunerable under the high ball, yet we didn't really hit any decent one's in. Packie might have benefitted from a couple - he took his goal well/showed determination, but is very limited and looks uncomfortable on the ball.
Benny would be good in a decent f/f line but the defender always knows what he's gonna do when he gets it - put the head down and bore in on goal - a couple of points and a bit of variety would be good.
Danny Hughes did well when moved out.
The two Monaghan corner forwards roasted us - surely there are better/quicker corner backs somewhere in the County? McGuigan is a good player on the ball - but he's not a corner back.
All in all Ross and DJ are a big improvement over POR, the substitutions in the forwards are always good and positive, but the defence needs big work done.
McComiskey needs to start in the qualifier, and probably Walsh and Kearney, who's done well in the last 2 games.

Bredagh on a bit of a run, 2nd in Div 3. Reserves 2 wins out of 2 - scored 3-13 and 5-09 in the two games. Minors racked up 6-12 in first game. Early yet - but good to see.
