I can recall that at the time in the local papers in Galway, there were hurling people from all over the county saying this was the reason they wouldnt do it.
But it was ignored by the national media.

I think Galway suggested getting some of the gate receipts from the matches they would have to play away as they would not have anything from home matches & the leinster council rejected this.

Be no problem if they were just allowed home matches.

QuoteMaybe if scanlon had stuck to midfield and not tried to shoot it would have been a good game for him. Why he wasn't taken off when O'Se came back on i just don't understand.

I always thought Marc was a top top player, from the first time I saw him and it really hasnt changed. He seems just as comfortable in the full-back line as the half-back line which is why I think he is more valuable than Tomas

QuoteWith regard to the referee, the experts concluded that he had a decent game - if that is the case ( which I don't think it is ) then what was O'Rourke on about at half time - he said that the people could be forgiven for saying that Bannon was playing for Dublin. And then Brolly in the after match analysis said that Bannon would have to hold up his hand and adit that he had a poor game.

4 hours later ( and without doubt a phonecall from Fr. Seamas Gardiner ) Bannon had a good game.

Come off it. Wise up and call it as it was - Bannon was shite - lost the plot and played for Dublin the whole game.

Dublin NEEDED an AI and Bannon tried to deliver it.

Can you specify instances where he made wrong decision?

I thought he was ok, made a couple of iffy ones but nothing major

The Munster championship should be retained, it is class, evey match is exciting and great hurling is played there. A couple of years ago, I was all for scrapping it but now I have the view that you shouldnt fix something when its not broken.

The leinster championship should be scrapped, in no way exciting any more adn to be honest, a bit of an emarassment at the moment.

I would have a munster championship & a rest of Ireland championship. Have the leinster counties along with Galway & Antrim (& possibly Down) compete in this. None of these stipulations from leinster like Galway cant get any home games (which was the reason Galway gave for not joinging leinster before before but was bizarrely ignored by the media), Just open draw, first team gets home advantage, simple.

QuoteHe did see a lot of ball in the second half but  he never once went by Griffin and he nearly always passed the ball backwards.

???

QuoteNobody else in the subs capable, or worthy of trying according to the actions of the manager?

Doesnt exactly show much faith in your other backs, does it? A switch should have been made when Griffin was struggling so badly, who knows, a less renowned back might have chosen to have the game of his life on Cooper yesterday and certainly would not have been any worse

QuoteOnly forward to play at all was Alan Brogan

What about Keaney? I thought he played well yesterday.

Dublin just didnt have enough depth, I think Ray Cosgrove is a decent player but relying on him to change things...
Whereas Kerry didnt even have to bring on MF Russell!

Just a point too, Why was Griffing left on Cooper? He was left on Bray for the 2 matched aginst Meath too despite being cleaned.

QuoteSurely if the hunger isin't there you would pick a different team !

You miss my point, Joyce is probably still the best FF in Galway, but his hunger is gone. Just like it is in a lot of lads.

But it is difficult to drop these lads because they are so good.

All this doom & gloom,

Should Ford go? Hmm Im not sure.

After all, Would you pick a team much different than the one picked against Sligo?

The hunger just isnt there is the older players like Joyce, Savage & Fallon anymore.

Would a new manager actually improve this team much?

QuoteThat bloody ref was a disaster. We got little or no protection from him.

Quotethought the Galway team's tackling was over physical at times and they were lucky to get away with less frees and cards from the ref

feckin typical roscommon shite here.

How can any ros fan say that ref didnt give ye anything?

Yeah, the sending off seemed harsh but only because none of us knows what it was for, nobody seems to have seen anything.

But he gave absolutely everything to Ros, even the Ros fans near me at the match thought this, the Galway backs were totally disillusioned with him, every time they tackled, he blew for a free.

But fair play to you rossie11, looks like you were watching the same match as me

QuoteClub championship games are going ahead this coming Sat & Sun. Lets hope they show a bit more for the clubs.......

Surely this isnt right, Galway will be due to play 6 days later on the 21st.

According to the gaa website:

Bank of Ireland Football Championship Qualifier Round 3
Connacht R/U v Rd 2 Winner
Munster R/U v Rd 2 Winner

Any idea how this is going to affect the club championship? When is the next round to be played?

QuoteThere was a whole load of us who opted to go to the hurling in Ennis on Saturday evening instead. Not that that turned out any better

Makes it sound like you didnt have the option of going to both.

Some loyal fans went to both, What a weekend it was for them!

QuoteA few things struck me about yesterday from a Galway perspective - the lack of desire shown is mind-blowing. Maybe this team are hanging off the coat-tails of 98 & 01 teams? Think they are as good as those teams? Maybe they need reminding that theyve not reached the semi final of AI since 01 let alone have notions of themselves as AI contenders. Where was the half forward line when ball was breaking? Where did midfield go after 20 mins? Why did Forde pick a half forward line with not a defensive bone in their body who were all over the shop when Sligos wing backs drove on and when the dirty ball beeded to be won? Why did Forde put Nicky in the corner when he was doing ok in first half running at Sligo from no 12 and then put the most lethal finisher in the panel in Armstrong at wing forward doing the donkey work when they needed his finishing power inside? Why did he take Blake off? Why didnt Forde take PJ off.......it would have been a tough call and hes been a sterling servant of Galway football and owes nobody a thing but he clearly wasnt right yesterday and unusually for him didnt even contribute in general play.

Forde gave us a defence to be proud of and ripped any attacking fluency out of a forward line pack with fine players. He has turned what was total football once upon a time (a long time ago too) into puke football. Get it to half way and hoof the thing as long and as high as you can in on top of a full back line that was eating the Galway forwards alive.

I agreed with most of this. Blake gave a hard hit just a couple of minutes before he went off and was involved in a few other tough incidents which probably took their toll, Ford probably thought Coyne would be fresh while Blake was tiring.
I cant understand why Ford messed around with the forwards so much, Nicky Joyce is doing very well at no.12, he is able to carry the ball forward although admiteddly his casual attitude can sometimes be worrying. But Fallon was flying at the start at wing forward, next thing hes in the corner, Michael Meehan should have been giving more of a chance at centre forward as well.

QuoteReckon the team will be along these lines:

Clarke
O'Malley
Heaney
Howley
Mortimer
Cunniffe
Kilcullen
Brady
Nallen
Harte
Hanley
Dillon
Mort
Moran B
Moran A

Who the hell is cunniffe?
