Seemingly, only one player missed training on Tuesday night after the players went out drinking Sunday and Monday. And do you know who it was exile, Duggan. But why should he be given a free pass and not everyone else?
Obviously we dont know what goes on in training full time and hhaving only attended a handful in recent weeks, I think peoples perceptions of certain players would be changed in the few I saw.

Some of the play was really impressive at times yesterday but something isnt right but it cant always be the managers issue.

Hopefully the changes pay off. Our half back line was destroyed the last day v Kildare. Maybe that's why there is changes if Laois Man has the inside track and is correct.

Lads I absolutely agree our county board is a massive problem. There is no forward thinking. We need leaders rather than followers. But I hate saying but the standard of club hurling in Laois is shocking so how do we expect these players to preform at high levels considering the low levels they are exposed too. There is a massive difference between good work going on in clubs and quality work.

Also I know two members of the Galway panel who have physically turned into machines cause they privately sourced additional S&C cause they wanted to play senior eventually for Galway. How many of our players have this mindset or willingness to go make it happen cause Laois GAA won't do it for them. How many of the players are living an inter county lifestyle when you see some of the shape of our players. They are only with Laois probably 10hours a week max. Its what they do in the other 158 hours a week is massive and make the difference. Extra gym, running, hurling, rehab, Diet etc.

Although, a physical development opportunity was supposedly offered to these players though the clubs last winter. How many players took it up, zero. Someone might confirm this.

Everyone in Laois is nearly an underage intercounty player, it's too easy get picked. We have to start doing something quick. At least clubs getting a GPO will help but must demand quality.

I'm hearing it is the same coaches and selectors from last year. Disappointing if that is true in my opinion. But that's just my thoughts.

Quote from: Verbal on August 31, 2024, 06:37:12 AMIf the person I am thinking of is Shane Keegan's brother in law, then he is a well respected (and qualified) coach.

If its the same fella he has done an excellent job over a long period of time with the same club team. Constantly redeveloped and kept them very competitive.

I don't know what process was involved and how many parties were actually interested but who is the alternative for the job? The present u16s management? I doubt it very much, thankfully. We don't have too many knocking down the door to get involved unfortunately.

Quote from: Ogie on July 29, 2024, 09:56:09 AMI see our U14 hurlers with good results on Saturday, qualifying for the Forrestall tournament in Waterford

Where did you find their results? Do we know what level they'll be playing at in Tony Forristal this year?

Beat Limerick A and Tipp West and drew with a Cork squad. I reckon it's the first Laois squad to be playing A competition in a while. Massive work being put in by the management. Results shouldn't be the main focus at this stage but its great to be competitive all the same.

I wouldn't be so optimistic. I reckon we could minimum see 4/5 retirements from that panel. I think we missed a huge opportunity especially retaining older players to aid the development of the younger players. Hopefully I'm wrong.

We need to establish a constant supply of 2/3 players graduating from our u20s who are ready and good enough for senior Hurling. I think results should not be the main goal of this team rather producing quality future players. This should be the focus of every underage section in clubs too, not winning at all costs which is killing player development.

Our minors and development squads are so important, exposing them to high standards and aiming to create a culture of players wanting to play at the highest level possible. Putting a top level manager coach at minor level is key and leaving them there for a period rather than putting someone in for the sake of it and changing constantly like what has happened in recent years.

We have so much work to do it's scary.

Is Moloney after moving to Portlaoise? He got a nice random bonus recently. The boom is back too.

Quote from: blueandwhite1 on February 24, 2024, 09:16:02 PMHave seen no evidence that this management team are any good. Our hurling standards and the way the team is set up looks second rate.

I have to agree. Very poor and doesn't look good when we lose two coaches mid season. Although looking at a couple of trainings earlier in the year, the sessions are very poor. I think things are going to get worse in the next couple of seasons as I think we will lose a number of first team players at the end of this season.

Funny moves! How did they take him back if they weren't happy!
He seemed to have a very peripheral role in the whole set up last year- there were lots of Chiefs!

Oh really do elaborate?

Very strong rumours that Anthony Cunningham to be the next St Bridgids manager in Roscommon, even though they are in an All-Ireland semi final after Christmas. Awful in house fighting with management and players running the team at the moment. Jerome Stack currently in place

Quote from: mcwregor on December 17, 2023, 04:04:05 PMGood to hear of Lee cleere returning. Not sure of the panel mKe up but there are plenty of lads that might not be available which will weaken what we could potentially have. I understand Paddy Purcell is unlikely to return. Jack Kelly has not been asked back. Ross king is currently not with the squad and uncertainty around his future. James keyes is in America and would be a big loss if he stays out there. Cha Dwyer and Sean Downey are still abroad, not sure if they will he around either. PJ Scully is not part of the panel for 2024 either. A couple of others we could do with are Ciaran McEvoy, Eanna Lyons etc.
On the positives Picky Maher and Willie dunphy are back along with a few youngsters like cathal and Tom cuddy, David dooley, jer quinlan, Aaron phelan and a couple more. Also heard that Mark kavanagh might be making a return.
We will need them all, westmeath and an up and coming offaly will be hard bet. Be great to get to a mcdonagh final and a day out in croker.

According to this article everyone is back on board.

I heard Mark Kavanagh has reluctantly left the panel due to his knee holding him back.

One worry I have is the amount of u20s on the panel. A few players are only gone 18 and on the panel. Personally I think it's wrong. Let them develop at their own age.

Quote from: Galtee1 on December 14, 2023, 02:45:47 PMBorris & Ossory have appointed Paudie Bourke and Shane Scully from Jk Bracken Templemore.

A shrewd appointment by B/K by all accounts. They come with good reviews as an upcoming management team.
