Well done Louth on finally winning Leinster. We are not that far behind them and that result should give us plenty of confidence for the Tailtean Cup and the following year in the league.

The progress Louth have made shows us that having the right people in charge and a dedicated squad can go a long way to achiving sucess. They are now like we were in 2003, wining Leinster and some great underage talent coming through. Where oh where did it all go wrong for us. We did it before and we can do it again if the desire is there....

Totally agree with all the above, I have been following Laois footballers since 1975 and always dreamt about a big day out and got one at the 1985/86 league final when we beat Monaghan by one point.

In comes Micko in 2002 and in 2003 we won the Leinster Championship final beating our neighbours and former team of Micko's Kildare. That was a day for all Laois gaels and I'll be forever grateful to Micko for giving us that day.
RIP great man and thank you......

Quote from: SCFC on September 04, 2024, 09:09:37 AMThink Joe's vulnerable without Dempsey and Murphy but might edge the Town.
O'Dempseys and Graigue will win easily.
Port v B Abbey could be close. Very hard to call so I won't!

Is Dempsey injured??

I saw the Graiguecullen v St Josephs game last friday night, it was a very even game all through. Joseph's lost two lads early on through injury,  Dylan Doyle after 10 mins and Cooney the goalie five minutes later. Josh O'Brien replaced Doyle and played very well. Graigue started slow, Joes went ahead but Graigue leveled it and it was 0-5 each at half time.

Josephs looked like they meant business and scored two quick points but graigue fought hard and dominated most of the second half. They created a few good goal chances but were narrowly wide with both of them. Scully in the graigue goals pulled off two good saves and they were level at full time. Then Brian Byrne found a bit of space 40 yards out and kicked a great point to win it for Graiguecullen. Eoghan O'Flaherty had a chance to level it from a free but drove it wide but overall Graiguecullen deserved it with great performances from Aaron Dorgan, Ben Dorgan  and Daniel O'Reilly.
Graiguecullen will now face 2022 champions Portarlington in the 2nd round, tough draw for them after playing the 2023 champions in the first round. If they're going to win it they will certainly have to do it the hard way.

LAOIS SFC ROUND 2 WINNERS GROUP
Arles-Killeen v Courtwood
Ballyroan-Abbey v Rosenallis
Portlaoise v Emo
Graiguecullen v Portarlington

LAOIS SFC ROUND 2 LOSERS GROUP
Killeshin v Ballyfin
Clonaslee-St Manman's v Stradbally
St Joseph's v Ballylinan
O'Dempsey's v The Heath

Hard luck to Laois today but a marked improvement on last years game. Thought we were a bit too negative but thats understandable give last year and the higher quality players on a down team operating in Div2 next season.
Overall it.s been a great year for Laois football and I think we can look forward with more hope than we have had for a long time. Well done all concerned. Agree totally with your remark about Mark Timmons, he's a very special player and a great example to all the younger lads on how to look after your body and dedicate yourself to your club and county. Year after year when others were bailing out of the panel he stuck with it and drove others to give their all. It wouldn't surprise me to see him back again next year...

I just did, this is all he said

"Whatever about me being abused, I don't care about that, but there was a County Board meeting there two weeks ago where clubs literally said that the team were finished this year," he said.

"Then online, it's just unfortunate the abuse that the players are receiving from people who don't even come to the games.

"We've a very loyal following. It's brilliant to see the loyal following. It's small but sure that's the way the sport is.

"I'm just delighted for the players. It really means nothing to me. They can keep abusing me all they want, it doesn't bother me in the least.

"I'm just really disappointed for our own people in the county to target our players like that," he continued.

"We were seven points up against London, we had about one hundred supporters and then all of a sudden everyone makes comments about them (the players) afterwards.

"Roll on the abuse in the next few days. We'll be ready to go again next week."

Sheehan also had a tense exchange with Fermanagh boss Kieran Donnelly, with the former feeling that Donnelly had said something to his players during the game.

"I won't get him a Christmas card and I probably won't get one off him," Sheehan added.

True, hard to see us beating Down but I said the same about Kildare. This team are starting to believe in themselves, they're all good players so who knows where it will take us. If Evan can find a pair of boots with a few studs left in them he might be able to stay on his feet a bit longer next day    ;D :D

That was an exceptional performance by every player and sub on that field and by the management yesterday, they got it spot on. Slow start but we learned from it and sized them up fairly quickly. We showed great ability not to be flustered by our mistakes and kept to the plan all through, when we lost a good lead we battled on and scored some great goals to put us back in command again.

Delighted for Brian Byrne, a guy who missed a lot of football last year due to a bad injury but to see him there yesterday back to his best was a joy to behold. The way he finished his two goals was brilliant after some clever work by our forwards. That quick pass that puts a guy in the clear and creates a definite scoring chance is something we have been lacking for quite a while.

All round it was a great performance and hopefully we will go all the way now against Down and make up for that horrible beating they gave us last year.
