Tyrone / Re: Tyrone County Football and Hurling

Quote from: GAA Club Fan on July 03, 2025, 09:07:19 PMNot sure I can give too many answers to the support question. A few theories;

- I think Tyrone fans lost the habit of going in the later days of Harte, and then we'd covid. Sometimes going to these things is a habit.
- The Tyrone Club scene is very active. There have been games every week more or less which takes a lot of the focus. When our game ends at the weekend, thoughts immediately turn to the next big game, and that's usually the club game. In other counties the club season can bypass people. If Tyrone was out once every 3 x weeks you have a chance to build that hype and get momentum among the support which is no longer the case.
- Tyrone used to be hated, Spillane, RTE, Southeners etc. I think that got the juices going. Us against the world. We are probably not hated enough.
- I think the team lack personality a bit. Mugsy, Ricey, etc. They are all a bit samey character wise now.
- The County does not have an all county identity anymore. Dooher, O'Neill, McShane, McNamee all represented N Tyrone for example. There is no representation there any more so we're probably losing something there too.
- I find the young ones don't drink as much. In the past it was bus trips and a bit of craic. That would have brought a huge number of young ones who had no interest in the GAA. Again, the fact that there are Club games on top of County games is probably a hindrance. A young club player will not bother with the game so he can be ready for the club. That stops him/her and 1/2 pals. Again, the CCC have lots of games to fit in to a short window with the starred system so it's a hard square to circle.

Good post

A sensible new poster, haven't seen one of them in the Tyrone forums in a while

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on June 29, 2025, 11:05:49 PMThat Galway keeper had the ball out before the hooter. How come they couldn't play on?

Yeah didn't like how that game ended. Think there could be controversy, imagine that was the final

Fallow year next year

Have had it on wfh this afternoon...Jalen Ngonda, CMAT, Inhaler...all decent performances.

But not much really catching my attention this year, don't think there is anyone on the Pyramid stage all weekend that I'd really want to see, maybe Biffy Clyro

Quote from: NAG1 on June 23, 2025, 03:09:17 PMAnyone else notice all the Donegal players bolting off the pitch at the end of the game?

Even Jim was heading for the gate at a good pace.

Just wondered if it was anything to do with the stick that MM got the week before for doing it.

They indicated on the TV that the subs had made their way around, and off the pitch, with a few mins remaining. Players then bolted off too. Straight into recovery mode

My understanding of all-round would be most versatile

As good as Murphy is, I don't think I would have him as best all-rounder

Quote from: SouthOfThe Bann on June 03, 2025, 12:40:24 PMA few more to add to the equation

Paudie Clifford
David Clifford
Rian O'Neill
Con O Callaghan
Paul Conroy
Brendan Rodgers
Conor Glass
Shane Walsh
Peter Harte - over the duration of his career
Darragh Canavan - Despite recent form has dropped massively
Michael Murphy
Michael Langan
Ciaran Thompson

Good shouts there. Paudie possibly the best

Michael Langan a fantastic footballer too.

Quote from: gallsman on June 03, 2025, 12:25:36 PMShane McGuigan and McKernan belong nowhere near that list!

Shane is one of the top forwards in the country. He probably works harder than any of the other top forwards. He throws himself around up-front, and he is often seen, especially before the new rules, in his full back line making blocks and turnovers

McKernan always catches my eye when I watch Tyrone. He is one of their most influential players. He often marks one of the oppositions best players, and he has a nastiness to this aspect of his play which often boils over. But he has more recently turned himself into a line-breaker and is very regularly popping up with important scores

I'm not arguing that they are the best players in the country, the list was just a few players that sprung to my mind when thinking of all-rounders, players that I see doing everything

Who would you go for gallsman?

Felt this needed a separate thread instead of polluting the other one. Who does everyone think is the best all-round gaelic footballer of recent times

A few that spring to my mind:
- Con O'Callaghan
- Peadar Mogan
- Ciaran Kilkenny
- Barry McCambridge
- Shane McGuigan
- Tom O'Sullivan
- Brian Howard
- Michael McKernan

Admittedly this list is from the top tier teams. I'm sure there are some amazing players from lower division sides, players who do it all for their county, can attack/defend, set the standard

Con a better all-round player than both of them
