This is a poor rule that only masks the the weakness of hurling in the weaker counties. At least 2 of these players have not lived in Longford in 3 years and have now reappeared on the county team. I have seen over the last 10 or so years massive strides made by the likes of Mayo and Armagh in hurling. We can gauge this because they are doing this with players either coming through their club structures or playing club hurling in the county.

I didn't think you had to be living in the county. This is the hurling promotion initiative that is being tried out. I'm sure one of the Smith brothers that hurls with Portumna is with Westmeath, and I think one of the Offaly lads with Longford is still with Rynaghs.

So if you're not living in the county and not playing club hurling in the county, what's the connection?

It's that scheme that they've introduced johnney, to have hurlers from stronger counties line out with weaker ones. The idea is that a) they will help the others develop, and b) they will help the other county be a bit more competitive.
The rule is for lads living in the county can line out for them. This is not the case here and i'm not so sure that the board are acting legally. Does Longford getting to a Lory Meagher final make it look like there is some progress in hurling and make the board look good.

George O'Connor was down in Longford last night doing a session with them

if lads are living in the county, there should be no problem with them playing

Where are the 6 from?

2 from Ofally 1 from Tipp and 3 from Galway. Are they all living in Longford?

Would this be considered a Longford team as 6 of them do not hurl in Longford? More of an all stars team nothing to do with promoting club hurling in the county.
