Narrower goals in GAA therefore keepers don't "dive" in advance of the kick like they do in soccer. So only an ejit would do a "pirlo" and would be extremely unlikely to get away with it.

I don't understand why the keeper dives in advance of the kick in so**er. If it's a good enough penalty they aren't going to save it anyway- at least give yourself the fighting chance of going the same way as the ball.

To get back to the original topic: Barry is currently organising a charity penalty competition involving clubs from all 32 counties in Ireland to raise funds for the Simon Community - who work to re-shelter homeless people - read more about it at http://www.32-32-32.com. He has invited me down to one of their meetings next week to listen in and take notes. As I said before, this is early days in the project, and at this point I'm thinking of keeping the names of the clubs out of the script, or make up fictional ones. But we'll see what comes out of this meeting.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. I'll keep you informed of how things are coming along. Keep up the discussion!

Thanks everyone. I'll have a look into all of them to see what the craic is. I'll meet him tomorrow so I'll let you know how it goes.

Yeah, SF's Barry McElduff, a staunch GAA man has approached me about writing a play about local GAA rivalries and how they can get so petty and some of the squabbles he has had to mediate etc. He approached me after he attended my play, Sitting Up for Michael in Omagh.

We've just had preliminary talks so far, but I've got a basic idea of one member of each club locked in a room by the county chairman and not being allowed out until they decide on a neutral venue for their upcoming match. It'll be a comedy but I was just putting up a note here to see which two clubs I should base it on. I'm from Tyrone, so I would be biased towards Tyrone clubs, but what about other counties?

GAA Discussion / Re: Greatest GAA Songs

Yeah, I got the message Ziggy. I want to revive the song, as far as I remember it was a brilliant folk song, so I'm going to make it my mission to make it famous again!
