GAA Discussion / Re: young footballer of the year????

Agree with previous posters. Young player of the year is treated as an additional All Star so that would rule out Clarke.

Would McComiskey be in with a shout? Seemed to really thrive when he got to Croke Park.

GAA Discussion / Re: Game of the year???

The Louth v Kildare game was the most open attacking game all year.

However for excitement right up to the final whistle it was hard to beat either Dublin v Tyrone or Dublin v Cork.

Not having a go at Keenan Louth exile. He played well in the Louth games I saw and I was as gutted as anyone outside Louth when Sheridan "scored" that goal.

Just think the likes of Galvin would be ahead of Keenan and there will be a sentiment element to the vote when it comes to the All Stars.

Didn't Peter Canavan win one in 2005 when Brian McGuigan didn't?

GAA Discussion / Championship 2011
September 20, 2010, 12:04:05 AM
Draw for 2011 championship is only 3 weeks away (7th October).Seems strange thinking it will be 2011 next year 9 was it not just 1999 a few years ago?

Despite reservations about Paddy O'Rourkes tactical nous and worries over more than a few positions, can't wait for next year. Hopefully we can avoid the preliminary round this year and stay in Div 1.

After this year a lot of teams will fancy their chances of having a bit of a run.

Provincial championships may have lost a bit of shine but every team will be going all out to win their province.

Who will be favourites for Sam next year and who can do a Down and stretch the summer out to August at least?

Have to say I've come round to the idea. Players seemed to enjoy it and no danger of any of them being punched etc.

Was thumping Diarmuid Marsden along with everyone else in 2002 after the game but while it was mental in a good way, maybe what we saw today is the way to go.

Fence needs to come down though and presentation maybe needs to be in middle of the field so everyone can see.

Fair enough team for the most part

Would have had

McVeigh in goals

Jordan in half backs instead of Kissane.

Doyle in corner forward instead of Cooper. Doyle deserves an All Star for his efforts this year.

Not convinced about Keenan at midfield. Get your money on him for an All Star. Media will give it to him for payback for Leinster.

Rodgers was on course for one before his injury.

He'll probably go back to his cushy job at FAS.

There is just something unlikeable about him all right/

Has anyone got round to drilling holes in Sam yet to stop players drinking out of it? Was this not passed at congress.

Well done Cork. Although I would have liked to see Down winning you couldn't begrudge the likes of Canty and Murphy who have been at the coalface for a while without reward.

It was looking dicey for long periods of the first half though Although Cork seemed to have the upper hand at midfield they were ponderous in possession and seemed to be all over the place in defence.

The point Danny Hughes fisted over, there were 3 Cork men went to the ball leaving Hughes in acres of space.
Defenders seemed to get a lot closer to their men in the second half.

Sheer strength of Cork won out for them in the end. King got a bit of a dig early in the 2nd half and Cork were making hay round the centre. Could Gordon not have been moved out for the last 15?

Also Cork's bench made a big difference.

Marty Clarke never got going today although he was living off scraps for long periods.

It's going to be interesting to see if Down can continue where they left off next year.

Nice legs all right but the show is a bit cringe worthy lilke the 125th anniversary special.

Grainnes just there for the eye candy, would prefer Miriam myself.

Vaguely remember accosting Des Cahill outside a toilet one night about Armagh not getting a particular All Star nomination.

Not Fecking Crystal Swing!

Did anyone see Hectors new Gaa show? Any good?

Really looking forward to the game tomorrow. Hopefully both teams play to their full potential ( and Down win).

Weather forecast doesn't look great but a bit of zip on the surface may suit Down more.

GAA Discussion / Re: Micheal Ó Muircheartaigh to retire

Sad news. Definitely feels like the end of an era.

No one else will be able to bring the sense of excitement across the airwaves.

Better to quit at the top and leave them wanting more.
