Surprised that Bernie is in - given that they persisted with Gleeson for the league final.
McDaid on the bench so must not be fully fit.
I'm not too sure what Ian Burke has done to justify inclusion on that team.
Unless Finnerty has a knock it's a very strange call looking in from the outside.
I'm confused with it and slightly concerned, generally whatever else was done last year it was whoever was going well that got the start, certainly outfield. I don't think Ian Burke has done anything much in a Galway jersey really since 2018, the little game time seen in the league wasn't anything special to put him above Finnerty (who must not be fully fit) or even the likes of Culhane realistically.
Hopefully he's flying in training and goes well Sunday but it's a head scratcher, Galway need to be at their best to get a result and can't afford to have any players that aren't at it, best of luck to Burke and his clubman in goals of course, would be great to see both of them having solid games.

Fairly big call made at goalkeeper for Sunday by Galway management but starting Ian Burke in the FF line is an even bigger one to be honest, really from left field.

Congrats to Sligo, Galway absolutely kicked that away, brainless stuff in the last 7/8 minutes, harsh to say it but that's the truth of it.

Sligo will be happier at HT as Galway should really be up by 3-4 points. Some really poor wides/attempts and a brainless free given away by Bermingham at the end of the half for a giveaway free. Sligo came roaring back into it for the last ten minutes of the half but Galway should have put much more distance between the teams than 4 point margin in the first twenty minutes. Very unlikely they will get another period on top as much again in the 2nd half.

A five point hammering, Sligo look the best team in Connacht by a distance this year.

Would be extremely wary of this game, regardless of the talk about the ref, I thought Roscommon were completely worthy winners last Sunday and the Rossies are long overdue a championship win against Galway in the Hyde.

Would have been pleased enough with how the league went in general for Galway, expanded the squad, defence was good generally, a couple of lads kicked on and Galway at least showed some decent fight in most matches but the non performance up front in the league final took a lot of the gloss of it.
An extraordinarily poor return from scoring attempts in CP that harkened back to previous years where the talk was "Galway have forwards" and yet it was a total lack of composure and clinical finishing in front of the posts that was the real losing of games. A scoring return of only 40% isn't going to cut it, the 70% mark should be the target for putting up real championship winning scores. Walsh was absolute money on the frees last year, barely missed anything that should have been scored, he was back to being loose enough again for the league final, cannot afford that when games are so tight these days and every mistake is punished. Huge amount of Mayo scores were from Galway errors in possession, if that continues into the next game then Rossies will be licking their chops.

Hopefully this upcoming match is better than the absolutely terrible Div 1 league match this year anyway, that might have been the worst IC game I was ever at in my life but I think you could see both sides mirroring each other again, likely be cagey enough.

Roscommon deserved their win, there is no arguing that point IMO. They put their bodies on the line and got what they deserved in the end, fair play to them 👏
That was also the worst refereeing performance that I have seen since 2014. He was all over the shop, no consistency in his decisions whatsoever.
Mayo fans never complain about refs when they win.
As others have pointed out, 4 scores from play won't win a game.
Without COC on the pitch to win frees and convert them they lose a large % of their scoring totals
The exact same tally from play won Mayo the league final!

Fair play to the Rossies, great result and deserved. On to the Hyde in two weeks now.

Roscommon love taking the neighbours down a peg especially when it is felt they may have a case of notions.
And they win around one in 5 titles so they are pretty good at it.

I suppose what's seldom is wonderful, 91 , 2001 and 2019 , have I left any out over the last 30 odd years ?

That honour belongs to Sligo &longford in 2010 and Galway & Kerry in 2017
2010 and 2017 anyway off the top of my head.
My bad, thought it was Connacht titles in discussion! Rossies don't beat Mayo often at all for sure, better record against ourselves.

Rarely has a FT scoreline been less reflective of a match, I thought Galway's profligacy in the 1st half was going to come back to bite them badly when Leitrim hit two on the bounce to get within a point but Leitrim just couldn't get the leveller when that momentum was with them. Galway managed to get a couple of important points to get back on track and then a goal killed it.
Leitrim made a mockery of the betting odds for large stretches, it's a misleading final scoreline.

Mayo awarded 8 frees within the scoring zone in the first 70 minutes from which 7 were converted yesterday compared to Galway's 1, 2nd free didn't come until the 75th minute.

I've watched it back and Joyce, O'Neill & Co will be fuming when they do; Some of those decisions were an utter joke and clearly impacted on the game. Mayo went 55 minutes without scoring from play.
Galway had enough chances to overcome any of that stuff and didn't take them, blaming the ref isn't going to be useful in rectifying what went wrong yesterday. When Comer didn't get a stonewall free in and there was puffball stuff given at the other end, that's just the way it's going to be, good teams can surmount those problems. Galway tackling wasn't good enough either at times, it has to be said.
In fairness to the referee though, he probably didn't want to hear anymore ringing booing of the Galway freetaker from the stands unless it was absolutely necessary.
Presumably those booing were the Dubs fans who stayed in for the second match because it surely wasn't the Mayo fans at it.
But the main thing we've learned from Mayo Gaa fans on social media is that Reape is the real victim of any referee decision yesterday, please keep that in mind.

FYI - only knockout games count for the likes of FTB, that Kerry win may as well not have happened.

Kildare 2017
Derry 2022

Saved you some onerous research there FTB to figure out it's only the two matches.
How many have Mayo won over the same timeframe, must be nearly 30ish you'd think. Incredible record in fairness, only for they had to play that Dubs team it would be so much more as well, some county, the best fans as well.

I don't know what more Mayo lads want, Reape was MOTM after, only conceded a point there and Heaney left the pitch, it's not like Reape got sent to the line unjustly or something.
There's more shite on social media with Mayo lads like yerman there whining about a bit of discussion on the Reape incident. Are they that upset over opinions that are irrelevant at this stage? Mayo won the match FFS, get on with it.

Some one said to me yesterday thet Galway have only won one game in Croke Park since 2001. That can't be true?
Yeah it's not true but sure you knew that well yourself.
