GAA Discussion / Re: UTV & BBC
October 01, 2007, 10:34:49 AM
On UTV Teletext they have reported that Crossmaglen defeated DROMINTEE in the County Final.  They even mentioned Dromintee player Ciaran McKinney.  How can they possibly have got this wrong.  Someone previously mentioned on this thread that UTV teletext must be doing it on purpose.  On Saturday they announced that GLEN were going for there 12th title in a row.  I think they are taking the piss!

I live in the North, and I don't know a single person that supports NI football team.

GAA Discussion / Greatest GAA Songs
August 14, 2007, 05:24:57 PM
I'm not talking about 'Star of the County Down' or 'Galway Bay' here, but the songs released when teams get to the All Ireland Finals.  A great one was Yabba Dabba Dooley, for Offaly in the 90's.  Another good one was the 'Dancing In the Street'(Kilkenny Version).

Any other favourites out there?

Hurling Discussion / An Poc Fada
August 03, 2007, 08:58:40 PM
Lads the All-Ireland Poc Fada is on at Annaverna Mountain, Ravensdale, Co Louth tomorrow.  If you haven't been to this and it is within reasonable distance(motorway all the way there from Dublin), then you really should go.  I am going tomorrow for the first time in 10 years, as I have been living abroad.

For those of you that don't know, the idea was based on the legend of Setanta who ran from Dun Dealgan to Emhain Macha and hurled the whole way there without the ball, touching the ground.  He went over the Cooley mountains on his way. (He should have turned left at the Lisdoo).  Therefore the modern day hurlers have to hurl there way around a 5km mountain course in the least number of shots.

Davy Fitgerald, Eoin Kelly, Brendan Cummins and many other famous hurlers will be taking part.  A great day out is guaranteed, and it is a bit of exercise to boot.

Not sure what time it starts at!

Lads all this talk about betting on Meath for the all-ireland is getting a bit ridiculous.  I saw Meath against Down, and they were useless.  And Down are one of the worst teams in Ireland!!  Didn't see the Fermanagh game, but they got it tight there as well.  Meath have had a lucky draws in the qualifiers, and have got another lucky draw against Galway.  Beating Down and Galway sounds impressive, but lets be realistic they are very poor teams.  I hope Meath do well, because I have always liked the way Meath play football, but when the quarters come, Meath will get beat.  And getting to the AIQF should be greeted as progress.  Don't put too much pressure on this team with unrealistic ambitions

GAA Discussion / Re: Gaelic Life
July 11, 2007, 12:58:09 PM
Have to say that this paper just keeps getting better.  This weeks was excellent, usual top drawer stuff from Brolly, and the top ten lists.  I know there was a lot of scepticism about this paper when it first came out, because every GAA paper or magazine which preceeded it was crap.  But this is an essential buy every Friday.  I know some of the Gaelic Life guys read this board, so some constructive criticism.

- A bit more news on the other provinces wouldn't go amiss
- There is a bit too much coverage on the two teams that are playing that week.  This weeks copy was much better because 6 Ulster counties where in action.
- The bluffers guide to the clubs, is a great idea, but could be a bit more interesting.

Keep up the good work lads, I hope that you are getting enough sales.

Anyone know where you can watch GAA in Sheffield?

Jesus Christ lads, give Gweyltah a break!!  Why not discuss the thing that's why he put it on the board, rather than just slag him off.  Personally I think that having it in Belfast is a bad idea.  Can you imagine bringing 40,000 Gaa fans up the Ormeau road in the middle of July.  I know that peace is breaking out big time but lets not kid ourselves that all is hunky dory.  Why don't they build a new stadium in Belfast for soccer and rugby with a £20,000 capacity, and bung the gaa a few quid to further develop Newry, Casement,Omagh and Derry.

GAA Discussion / Soccer more popular than Gaelic
June 21, 2007, 01:54:34 PM
I know that in large parts of North Donegal, soccer is more popular than gaelic.  Is this unique for a RURAL area or does this happen anywhere else in the country

Pecker Dunne is still alive, and there was a programme with him on it this week on TG4 about Travellers and Music.

You don't see any flag sellers trying to sell off coloured saffron flags to Armagh fans.

GAA Discussion / Re: Eamon Coleman

Condolences to the Coleman Family.  Eamon will be sadly missed by Gaels all over the world.  One of the few managers who was ' a bit of craic'.  South Derry to the hilt.

RIP

Was at the game yesterday behind the canal goal.  Why on earth when down are in possession 30 yards out in front of goal can they not put the ball over the bar!!  No other county in Ireland has this obsession with goals.  Finlays final point was the widest point I have ever seen, but Monaghan deserved to win.  Down had no structure to their game.  McGuigan being sent to mark wee Tommy at the end sealed their fate.

Sure that's ridiculous.  I'm glad Armagh got bate now!!  We can take a rest like Kerry do every year.

Hang on, does that mean that if Tyrone beat Donegal, then Donegal and Armagh are at the same stage in the qualifiers, and therefore Donegal would have got no extra benefit for beating Armagh?
