Dr our defending is usually second to none, the backs had an off day and we still came out with the win, I agree poor defending yesterday cost us the goals! However we playing the better hurling throughout sneil where incredibly dirty, sean MC afee and Aidan where hammered around that pitch, pulled down every time they got the ball,
Slaughtneil weren't dirty. A few bad challenges on both sides not helped by a poor referee.
Glad you agree with me Two Hands, in my view he was woeful.

Who was the ref?

On Slaughneil, it's no surprise that they're up with the best club hurling teams in Ulster, they've won 2 or 3 Ulster club minor titles whose teams also play in the Antrim leagues and go to any underage blitz and more often than not they'll have a team at it. Serious effort being put in for a good few years.

The fundamental problem with the ref on Sunday is that he does not get matches of that intensity on a regular basis and so he acts like a rabbit in the headlights and with that has a low level of confidence to let the teams get on with it. so by being over fussy he hopes to remain in control. I have heard it said that he referees hurling as if it was a football match (probably correct as he would do more football than hurling and would be hard to switch).
Secondly the UC have always used for Senior Club matches in both codes referees that are on the National Referees Panel and as such with an Antrim and a Derry club involved this excluded Hasson Elliott Cunning McAuley Nash leaving Clarke Sweeney and McAndrew. Although O'Connor from Donegal was used in a previous round it was a departure from the norm( he must have previous form somewhere else)
How the UC address this problem needs to be developed further. Some would point to the Ulster League has a vehicle to develop referees but this is not possible as everyone is aware teams in the senior championships in their respective counties bar Armagh do no compete in it. So back to square 1

Walt and MR, I'm only seeing your posts now. Rinty ran 3:17, he was happy enough (believe it or not)!

MR, pace was steady enough and consistent until mile 21. After that it was up and down like a hoors knickers, it was just a matter of not walking and getting finished. Nothing enjoyable about the last 4 or 5 mile.

Delighted with the time but still never doing another one!

You done one but it will always be one more than me - I will never do a marathon  well on the road any way.
Did you enjoy the whole experience of the event or not
Rinty was flying What's next for him sub 3:00?

Well done to you both.  No.1 how did Rinty get on? I watched some of it on Eurosport coverage just focused on the front 20
Was out today on a recce for a race in the Mournes next weekend hope we get the same weather we got today. last year was brutal weather wise rain and gales.

Going grand BM, it's been my most enjoyable week of running in over 3 months. I could get used to tapering and carb loading! The nerves are starting to kick in a bit but hopefully they'll disappear when the gun goes.

More importantly, have you found a pub close to the Olympic Stadium where we can watch the rugby?  :)

Best of luck this weekend No.1 and to Rinty also not forgetting BM have a good one too

8-3 the dall half time.

Think portaferry may have been beat by ballygalget.

Yip, we eeked out a point victory somehow! Wasn't a great game, too many basic errors throughout plus the tight Ballycran pitch doesn't help. Two great goals, one from Danny Toner who finally is starting to show end result for all his abilities.
Ports were flat and had some strange positional switches which helped us, but we've a load of room for improvement, touch and decision making poor at times, but some of the young lads will learn from it. We'll take it and move on to the final in two weeks time.

Yesterdays Stage 5 in the Tour of Britain was indeed good viewing. The last climb from Melmerby to Hartside Fell is a hard slog all right. Didn't do it on the road or on a bike but off road on two feet, it was brutal. I was amazed at the speed the competitors were maintaining at the top. I know it must be the same for all the pros but knowing that climb puts it all in perspective.

Domoulin in a more comfortable position even though he was involved in the crash along with Aru. It has been reported Aru seen doctor twice after the crash

What are people's opinions on this?

Psni/ruc have been playing for years in Interfirm run competitions, it happens... I moonlighted for a company a few years ago and played against the peelers, twice... legally chasing a peeler with a stick, And in the match after that one you tried to do the same to Richie Power but couldn't get near him  ;D ;) striking a peeler with a weapon, what's not to like? ;)

Al part of the process, how many Irish men have joined the British army over the years?

Kilkenny just do the basics better than anyone else

Catching
Lifting the ball first time
Hooking
Blocking

Add in; Refusing to be true Gaels and play football as well like all other counties.

By not playing hurling are Cavan not true Gaels although it hasn't helped their ability to win the All Ireland Football title

Well done on you and your teams organisation of the event - suffering now with the calf strain
It was easier in the dark with Big Jim but then again it was 21 years ago
How many ran? I went to the tide after for a free "ice" bath hope it does some good
You missed the total eclipse at the four roads Danny Burger, Rock and Bruiser were standing in  a line directly in front of the sun. Sunlight only appeared  when one of them moved (but not very far)

Good stuff Walt, give me a shout when you are down. I'll be the boy running about panicking and trying not to roar at people! I thought that was Rintys job

Just imagine Big Jim is running alongside you growling and you'll not be long forgetting the calf strain! If you did imagine that you would forget everything not just the calf strain- Did you ever do any of his "stamina" sessions? or more commonly  known as commando training

Sure I know who it is now! There is no f**king way you'll be walking if John Ta is racing!😀 Well I do like a pacer!!
There is so many events on this next week No.1 and would love to do them all Strangford, Bearnagh and the unforgettable Mill Hill Mile where I did indeed finish in front of your neighbour John Ta much to his dismay
