too much emphasis on gym work to the detriment of the skills

GAA Discussion / Re: Kildare GAA to move house..

good old st conleths park, so many enjoyable but unhappy memories !

I am only surprised that it took this long for Kildare to sell up and move house.

they will get a nice little lift for this
now they can afford to helicopter Mickey Harte down from Tyrone three times a week after the 2007 season (which could be Harte's last with the red hands)

He's not a bad boss and will motivate them...teach them a few things which is always good for a panel of players

also good for Paidi's bank balance

It can't be that new, I think I played at its opening and that wasn't today or yesterday!!  In fact, more like 12 yrs ago - or have they upgraded it again?

shows you how long it is since I've been a regular craigbane visitor !
I even trained on the old pitch (and watched the likes of Gerry crossan and my uncles play football)
getting there and back by tractor ! :o

just thinking, I've never set foot in the new Craigbane pitch - in spite of the fact 'our hill' overlooks it!

I thought that
but to be fair
he was well past it at that stage

strange that he went to play with Craigbane rather than his old club....obv wanted to play along with the brothers

There are some fellows who played for Craigbane, Banagher and Dungiven !

Ah but Gerry had hung up his headband and retired from County football by 1980.

oh yeah,
I forgot about that

I would have thought Barton might have merited a mention in that list.  6 North Derry men and 3 from Dungiven what does that tell us apart from the fact that it doesnt impress Cromagh?
:)

no Gerry McElhinney either !
;)

an All star no less !

dont know why you re laughing at Joe Irwin
a very good player who wasnt playing at the top long enough- or just didnt get seen in the days of bad tv coverage and even worse Derry attendances

Its hard to compare players who are superb in their own positions

McKeever the best man to man marker in the game, and the only man that made canavan look like a junior footballer
Scullion superb
McGilliagan - best in the game at what he did
Tohill best all round attacking midfielder of his generation

cant compare so I cant selct

Aidy Morris

My answer would be between two Gowna men.

The talented McCabe
or the man who would have died for Cavan Morris.

I'd go for Morris.

what is the best footware to wear on the plastic pitch during this weather

mouldies are the best cause the pitch never gets soaking wet and heavy like grass

I think they water our pitch...there is some reason for this - I will find out in time..
so moulded studs no use on it right now..

GAA Discussion / Re: Most naturally talented

OK I mentioned Derry

Hard for you to accept. I have been saying the same thing for about a year and other examples were Dublin and Mayo.

This time last year most people would have laughed at the notion of Dublin or Mayo being strong teams.

There is only one side in Ireland that imo they have 15-20 top notch footballers - Kerry.

The rest have a mix of great & good players and a smattering of out and out athletes.
This was enough to win Tyrone and Armagh the all Ireland titles.

To go back to the topic of the thread, the current Kerry football side are almost all naturally talented.
the same cannot be said for the bulk of all other county teams.
:)
