Got 138. Really jogs the memory. Time caught me..there are only 2 I wouldn't have remembered, John Finn in 98 and Joyce McMullan from 1990.

what about a nice wee picture of Paul Galvins hole?

Or an artistic little "86" in memory of the last time they bate Tyrone in the Championship?  ;)

Well we couldn't do what some teams do and have a star for every title won as there would be a veritable galaxy on the crest. Even if we had one for each time we've successfully defended our title (tough thing to do that), its still 14....

Yes, its good to have it back, but only if its given a bit of effort & respect by players and supporters. In theory it should be a worthy spectacle, but its at the mercy of other competitions and other things. Its just one competition too much for a lot of players in their off season.
Anyway, this thread will be no fun without a few arguments over team selection. I'll make an attempt at a theoretical Munster team. This won't be the team of course.
1. Brendan Kealy (Kerry)
2. Eoin Cadogan (Cork)
3. Johnny McCarthy (Limerick)
4. Tom O'Sullivan (Kerry)
5. Tomás O'Sé (Kerry)
6. Michael Shields (Cork)
7. Marc O'Sé (Kerry)
8. Aidan Walsh (Cork)
9. Bryan Sheehan (Kerry)
10. Darran O'Sullivan (Kerry)
11. Patrick Kelly (Cork)
12. Paul Kerrigan (Cork)
13. Gary Hurney (Waterford)
14. Kieran Donaghy (Kerry)
15. Donnacha O'Connor (Cork)

Gooch and Declan O'Sullivan are excluded as I'm certain they will be unavailable due to club commitments, as is Paul Galvin as I think there's an Armani show in the RDS that weekend. ;D
John Galvin (Limerick) and Ciarán Sheehan (Cork) would have made the team if fit I think.
Apologies to Clare and Tipp fans! The likes of Clare's  David Tubridy, Ger Quinlan and Tipp's Barry Grogan and few more could definitely be included.

2 class acts. Would definitely be in my best 15 of the past 15 years or so. I wish them well in their retirement.

Farce of an Aussie team..some of them couldn't kick snow off a rope.

Stevie Mc, Glynn, Tommy Drago & Kennelly outstanding. 2 lovely scores by McKernan, Donaghy worked hard and Hanley did well also.

Future is bleak for this if its treated like this by the Ozzies tbh.

Sadly word on the Kerry forum is that Brendan O'Driscoll passed away today. Very sad if true.

Disgraceful comment to post. There was no mention of him dying on the Kerry GAA forum and even if there was, you shouldn't have reposted it, as an online forum is hardly 100% reliable anyway. Very bad form, especially to do so to a fellow Kerryman who's in a critical condition.

Get bent. I was merely passing on what was reported to me.

Sadly, Brendan passed away earlier today in Cork University Hospital. Tragic to see a fella cut down at such a young age. Thoughts with his family and clubmates right now.

GAA Discussion / Re: Your Club League Set-up

Kerry has 4 divisions of 12 teams each and Division 5 divided into North/South, 7 teams in each. 62 teams total. There are a few "non-league" teams who play in the junior leagues and have dabbled in the senior league.
Promotion/Relegation of top/bottom 2 teams from each division except division 5 has some playoff system I'm unfamiliar with.

Co League taken very seriously down here and provides 11 quality competitive games each year outside of c/ship action. Its a great competition IMO.

No Oz for Darran O'Sullivan Id say..Mid Kerry overcame East Kerry after Extra time in the Kerry semi final today, final is fixed for Oct 30th. Can't see him bothering to fly out for the 2nd test alone, so he's more than likely ruled out.

Tarbert to Tuosist is 125km according to Google. In Donegal that would be only a spin, Kilcar to Malin is 150km. As always Cork people look down on Kerry, Allihies to Youghal is 190km.

Actually Tarbert to Caherdaniel (where Sneem-Derrynane play sometimes) is longer than the Tarbert-Tuosist trek. 90miles. Comparable to the Kilcar-Malin trek which is 92 miles, but nothing beats the Allihies-Youghal journey..118 miles!! Imagine when driving from Allihies to Dublin and Mitchelstown (still in Cork) is roughly half way there!

To complicate things further, it seems the Divisional c/ships down here are pretty unique aswell. As AZ has said, all teams (regardless of grade) play in the divisional c/ships..so you have a Junior team playing Intermediate and Senior teams...I have had quite a few puzzled looks trying to explain that one to a few people aswell! It gets fairly tribal, especially up my way..the North Kerry C/ship would have a reputation for eh..not suiting windy footballers, shall we say!..And for an example of the romance that can be involved, Tarbert, a Junior club won it last year beating Listowel Emmetts who are intermediate.

Absolutely AZ, yeah. Of course playing senior c/ship games against the likes of Crokes brings a player on...many players would never see the inside of Fitzgerald stadium or Stack Park if it weren't for the divisional setup.

You know your South Kerry pretty well I see..their c/ship is hotting up down there at the minute..big Waterville v Dromid semi final on the horizon for one.
Who's in the other semi Ciarrai

The Marys are playing Bally/Foilmore in the other semi. That should be a cracker. Ciarrai, my wife is a Renard woman, and her sister is married to Dennis Shine. I've been out in Dromid at matches on and off since Declan Sullivan was about 16. It's fascinating the way he changed his game over the years. Dromid are doing very well this year considering the emmigration. Aidan Shine and others are after catching the aeroplane or boat, and Dromid are still after reaching the Junior final again. Last year they lost to the Marys, and that worked out well for Cahirciveen :)

Ah, that explains that! 2 interesting semis there alright, I think Waterville & Bally/Foilmore for the final would be a good shout. Waterville are the best non-senior club side in Kerry this year to me..looking very strong.
Dromid are a great little club, have a good few friends down there and its amazing how far they've come from the days of not being able to field teams...its some hoor of a journey to get there from my end of the county though! They've lost 10 players of their 1st team in the last 2 years I think..and that includes the likes of Aidan O'Sullivan who was a Kerry U-21 centre back and Sigerson winner with CIT..for a small club to lose the likes of him and still be going well speaks to their character...and of course having an absolute gem like Declan helps aswell!

Is Paddy Curran playing any football>?

Looked unreal at minor a few years back.

Joined Bishopstown in Cork this year. Has done the cruciate in both knees and never fulfilled the promise of minor level sadly. His 8 points in the minor final of 2006 was an unreal performance...got a cracked jaw and played the replay 6 days later but was ineffective.

Alan Brogan doesn't deserve it (but will prob get it)..he was anonymous in the semi final and poor enough in the final aswell.

From my post a couple of pages back, in the semi final v Donegal he was on the balll 25 times and gave the ball away once. With 13 players hanging out of him.

In the final v Kerry, he scored two points and made the goal, plus he was in possession 23 times and gave it away once.

He had more possession than any other Dublin player throughout the Championship, directly created 3-8 and scored 0-13 from a withdrawn role.

A worthy winner imo.

That stat is not giving a clear picture if thats the case...he kicked a couple of terrible wides in that game. Being on the ball (i.e: in possession) doesn't mean anything in Gaelic football, its what you do with it..
"He made the goal"..what does that mean? He gave a simple handpass to a guy who did the real hard bit and finished it?..So what? He kicked one great score in the final, but apart from that had little impact on the game in my opinion and he certainly had little impact on the semi final if you watch it again.

I'm not looking for an argument and It doesn't really matter anyway as there is no outstanding candidate like there usually is, so you can make a case for a few players. I really hope that Kevin McMenamin gets some recognition in Dublin (or maybe a start next year?) as his contributions in the semi and final are what got Dublin over the line both days really.

That's the Aidan Shine I was on about. He's Dennis' brother. Dennis has an All Ireland Junior winners medal too. Declan's brother Dominic is promising too, but he's a full back :D

Denis Shine is a great club player..if he was a bit bigger he could have played Senior county...did well at Junior level like you say though. Aidan Shine would be skirting the Kerry senior panel if he hadn't left I'd say..
